I teach a motorcycle safety course, and ocassionally I have to get everyones attention over the normal noise plus the noise of the motorcycles. This whistle DEFINATELY gets everyones attention. I made the big mistake blowing it the first time indoors. My ears rung for almost an hour after that. If you want loud this is the whistle to get!!!!

This is a great whistle. It is large and bright orange--easy to find if you drop it. The whistle is REALLY loud; don't let small children use it as a toy.

This is the best whistle available. Definitely a must-have in the wilderness, especially when you go with a kid. I find it too expensive though, for a molded peace of plastic.

If you want a loud whistle, this is the one for you. I also have the JetScream Whistle, and this one is louder. It's also bulkier than the JetScream Whistle, however, so that may be a drawback to some.

I recommend that you cover your ears if you blow the whistle indoors, and it's probably not a bad idea to cover them when you blow it outdoors.

The Item I ask is good the sound is good and better that all the whistles I know,but I have a problem I ask a Black one and they send me a very different color I think this spoiled what I rely want BLACK

My entire family loves Storm whistles. They are not only the loudest whistle in the world, but also very easy to produce a good solid sound with. In our family we use Storm whistles for elder care and for personal safety.

Last year as our parents' health began to decline, we noticed that their little old voices had become too soft to hear even from the next room. We were worried that one of them would fall and not be able to make the other hear them for hours. We also wanted to reduce our mother's anxiety, as she would become very upset if she couldn't hear a response when she called for attention from the room she was in.

We couldn't get our parents to wear the "help I've fallen and can't get up" lavaliers I had gotten them, but as a compromise I did manage to get them to agree to wear some cheap whistles on lanyards all day so they could blow the whistles to get each other's attention. The idea of using whistles worked out; when they blew them they knew they had been heard. But the cheesy whistles I had given them did not hold up. That's when I went on a quest to find the best whistle in the world, and as a result found the Storm whistle.

My parents love their Storm whistles because they don't require a lot of breath to make a very loud sound and so they are always confident they can be heard. This has relieved both parents of a great deal of anxiety. And it helps their caregivers because they know that they can hear them even at the other end of the house. This allows the caregiver to get the cooking and cleaning done without having to check on my parents every few minutes. In our case, using whistles to call for attention has worked out much better as one of our elder care strategies than relying on baby monitors.

As for me, I love having Storm whistles for personal safety. I was mugged a couple of times over 20 years ago, and on those occasions learned I can't scream worth a you-know-what. I can yell and cuss just fine, but I simply cannot scream properly even though I used to be a mezzo-soprano. Now I carry a Storm whistle on each keychain and know that if I have trouble I can deafen my attacker and make my neighbors hear me at the same time. Sure the Storm whistle is big, but in addition to being capable of producing an ear-splitting sound that's what makes it cool. I have a black one on one set of keys and an orange one on another set so I never leave home without a whistle. And I also have a Storm whistle in my emergency kit, as I live in an area famous for tornadoes and subject to earthquakes.

This year I'm giving my other family members their own Storm whistles so they can enjoy the same peace of mind I get from mine. I got them from the company's own web site, which was an added pleasure because I learned my purchase was supporting a business in my fair city. No, I am not affiliated with them in any way. I just think Storm whistles are a superior product and sincerely recommend them to anyone needing a whistle for signaling of any kind.

WOW! Be very careful if you blow in this whistle - never be close to someone else. It is LOUD! Plastic, huge whistle. Does what it is supposed to. Quick and good shipping.

Please, also look at the pictures of the whistle package I uploaded. Many of my comments are repeated in the notes to the photos.

The first thing I noticed, when I looked at the whistle package, was that it has warnings all over it about the whistle being extremely loud. However, the whistle has quite a wide range of volume: if one blows into it slightly it is not loud, if you blow into it with medium strength - it is very loud (my ears rang for 5-10 seconds after that). I did not risk blowing the whistle full strength with my ears uncovered, but with covered ears there was certainly no danger at all to my hearing.

The package also says that the whistle is waterproof and works underwater - I did not try that. Maybe the feature could be useful if you do scuba diving, and some shark starts chewing on your leg, you could try to scare it away or to whistle for help...

On my photos I put a penny next to the package to show the size of the whistle. Some people wrote that it is very big, but it looks like a quite normal size whistle in real life. If you have small hands, then the whistle has size of about the width of your palm.

The sticker on the front of the package I received says that the whistle is orange (what this page says as well and what I ordered) but it actually came in black. The back side of the package had an other sticker stating the correct color of the whistle.

There is a ring attached to the whistle in case you want to carry it on your neck or on your key ring.

And finally, the whistle is very light - it certainly would not add any weight to your backpack or purse.

I got this as a present for my girlfriend because a loud a$$ whistle is a good thing to have in your purse. Naturally, I was going to find the loudest possible and this is what came up. But I could not believe the size of it when it arrived. It's so big it's comical. Like an oversized clown whistle or something. I'd say it's about 2-3 times the size of a regular whistle. I can't help but laugh when she pulls it out of her purse. Yes it is very loud but for me, the size is a major drawback. Definitely not easy on your pocket or keychain.
