I bought this at Amoeba Music in Hollywood. It was in the dollar section and I had never heard of the band but hey, it was a dollar! Imagine my surprise when I found out this album is phenomenal. The orchestra arrangements are excellent. I'd recommend this for fans of anything indie-pop. Frances is on their way to become a happier, poppier version of Radiohead.

This album, first of all, is great songs. All of them. All the way through the record. Start with that. If it was nothing but a guy or gal with a guitar singing these songs, it would still be a great record.

Then add lush chamber arrangements (winds and/or strings) for a depth and sheen to enhance the already great songs.

Then add the power and punch of a great, tight band.

Then order the songs with a logic, a flow and a diversity which is very rarely found anymore, since almost no one thinks in terms of a whole record in this age of the MP3.

And then, to put a bow on it, add top-notch production.

This band deserves to be much more widely-heard than they are.

This has not left my MP3 player since being added, and is firmly ensconced in my regular rotation. If you don't think you don't like chamber pop, I bet you would change your mind after listening to this.

Buy this record.
