Colum Sands is Always Worth A Listen, March 10, 2002
This review is from: All My Winding Journeys (Audio CD)
Colum Sands has a way with a story and a song that is at once charming and insightful. Sometimes tender, sometimes biting, always good-humored, Colum uses his sweet, clear voice, Irish heritage, and musical virtuosity to weave stories in his songs that make you wonder, smile, and sometimes, weep. "Buskers" is without a doubt a song that will make you do all three. "The Night is Young" will remind you that life is a journey best savored. "Directions" will make you laugh, and nod your head, and think, "Yes, it really is like that!" His two brothers, Ben and Tommy, and his sister Ann help him on this song, capable musicians all in their own rights. This recording, like his previous two, "The March Ditch" and "Unapproved Road," is a treasure.

There's not a bad song on this CD, October 2, 1999

This review is from: All My Winding Journeys (Audio CD)
In the tradition of the Sands Family, Colum Sands has put out a consummately beautiful collection of original and traditional songs. Colum's lyrics have the power to move me to tears, and in some cases, break me up laughing. There is a delight and liveliness to his music, and with it, a keen edge of insight into both the life of the Northern Irish and the human condition in general. Colum plays the guitar and sings with elegance and warmth, and, with members of his family (brothers Tommy and Ben and sister Ann) backing him, produces an outstanding, lovely series of songs.
