4.0 out of 5 stars not bad but I expected better, October 26, 2004

I've been listening to this release repeatedly over about the last week trying to make my descision on this album. and over all I would have to say that it is pretty good, but far from being Annihilator's best album. "All For You" is a varied release that showcases Jeff Water's skills greatly and he has definatly come up with his fare share of killer riffs and solos on this. as for the new vocalist Dave Padden he can actually sing when he want's too. he reminds me just slightly of Mike Patton(Faith no More) but with a more aggressive edge. actually his vocals are most impressive with the exception of Demon Dance where he nearly ruins the song by sounding like the guy from System of a Down. The music in that song is almost good enough to make up for the vocals (almost). anyway I would recommend this album to someone but check out Carnival Diablos, or Waking the Fury out first.

4.0 out of 5 stars Annihilator return with a mixture of styles..., June 19, 2004
This review is from: All for You (Audio CD)
Annihilator arrived at the beginning of the 90s with one of the best thrash metal albums of all time. You could even say it was one of the best metal albums ever. It was and still is incredible with so many great riffs played by Jeff Waters, a guitarist with talent coming out of his ears. The next album, Never Neverland was just as good but after that many people thought the band went downhill.

If you are familiar with recent Annhilator, then you will be aware that Annihilator often mix the style of their music across an album. Carnival Diablos was a great example of this. A bit of hard rock, a bit of Heavy Metal and some thrash.
Waking the Fury was more thrash and was very fast and very heavy.

All For You, the new Annihilator disk, is to my ears, similar to Carnival Diablos, in that it mixes many styles. I think it is a great all round album.

There is a new singer in the form of Dave Padden. He can sing very well but on the first song, the title track, the verse is shouted in a rather nu-metal way, which sort of spoils an otherwise good song. It is quite a relaxed metal song, but is pretty catchy.
Dr. Psycho is a mid-tempo/fast song which really gets the head moving!!
Demon Dance starts off slowish and then goes into a very very fast thrash song!! amongst Annihilators fastest ever songs.
The picking on the guitar solos on this song are beyond belief! SO clean and precise.
The rest of the songs are either mid tempo metal or fast thrash. There are a couple of ballads thrown in as well, which might annoy some people. For me though, the album works really well as a whole, the varation of songs making it an interesting listen and not just monotonous speed the whole time.

A very good album that any Metalhead should enjoy.
IF you want balls out thrash however, check out Waking the Fury.

3.0 out of 5 stars Hit & Miss, November 10, 2004

I've followed & supported Jeff Waters' band since "Alice in Hell". I found that after the first three albums, you didn't know what you were getting when an Annihilator cd was purchased. I'm not talking about musical style or musical abilities. Jeff Waters is probably the most diverse & skilled guitarist in the metal realm, which is why I keep shelling out cash for his music. I find myself, quite often, questioning his reasoning as far as allowing input in the song writing department. Several albums sound like ideas were repeated many times over. After listening to "Waking the Fury", I felt that perhaps Annihilator was back in full force (considering the same line-up was actually used for 2 albums in a row was another selling feature to me). I think if songs were written as a collaberated effort (whether from his band or from an outside influence) and Jeff didn't take on all aspects of the song writing process, the quality of the songs would improve immensely. I'm not slammimg Jeff Waters as a song writer considering he's written some incredible songs over the years, but he's only human. I gave the album three stars because I expected more from the songs. Once again, while the musicianship is outstanding, the overall effect of the cd was disappointing to me (especially the "Talking Head" vocal style in Devil Dance).
