Editorial Reviews

A collection of new recordings of fan favorites including their biggest hits All I Want, Walk On the Ocean, and Something's Always Wrong, among others. The band states: Like most bands who recorded for major labels, we didn t actually own many of the recordings we did during that time. 'All You Want' is us reclaiming our past for ourselves. While making this album, we got to look under the hood at the parts we'd written so long ago, pull apart some of the magic of the originals, and in some cases, update arrangements, tempos or attitudes that we thought we could improve upon with the benefit of a little hindsight.

4.0 out of 5 stars Another greatest hits record...or is it? July 30, 2011
Format:Audio CD
Simple and to the point, this cd is a 2011 collection of re-recordings by the band, so that they can sell it at shows without having to pay Sony, who owns the rights to the original recordings from the 1990's. Most of the songs are faithful to the original, though the singer's voice has changed somewhat over the years, and also an extra chorus was added to the end of "Walk on the Ocean".

Buy this cd if you want the money to go to the band, and not some record company. DO NOT buy if you're looking for a collection of original 1990's recordings.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Album! December 21, 2011
By Barber
Format:Audio CD
I have been a Toad fan for awhile. My first album was Dulcinea, and I loved it. Since then I have bought most of their albums: Light Syrup, Fear, Coil...and all have had regular spots in my rotation. When I first heard about this album, I was VERY skeptical. When a band re-records one of their own songs (not live versions)I almost never like it ( i.e. switchfoot "dare you to move", Juliana Theory "Into the Dark"). However, I listened to a few samples of this album on the Toad website, and it sounded great, so I took a chance. This is a great album. Some of the tempos have changed, a few arrangements were added, but overall, the original songs are intact, and the band sounds great. Most of all, they added the extra chorus to the end of "Walk on the Ocean"!! The original video back in the early 90's had the extra chorus, but the album version did not. I love the song even more with the extra chorus. Anyway, this is sort of a greatest hits, and buying it will support the band (which is the main reason i got it). I can't wait for the new album!!

3.0 out of 5 stars You Want More! August 21, 2011
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
This Toad The Wet Sprocket sampler is being sold by the band directly at their 2011 shows. Toad went back into the studios and re-recorded new versions of classic Toad tunes such as: "Fall Down" "Something's Always Wrong" "Crowing" "Come Down" "Walk on the Ocean" "Windmills" "Crazy Life" "All I Want" "Good Intentions" "Brother" & "I Will Not Take These Things For Granted" and as that is indeed a great thing I remember Glen Phillips saying from a stage in South Lake Tahoe in January of this year that Toad would be back later in the year and playing new songs from a record that the band was planning to record in 2011. Well I do hope that this is going to serve as a hold-over disc to keep the mood flowing until the new record with brand new songs comes forth.

If you already have "Playlist" or "PS" (a Toad retrospective) everything's fine as those two have 14 and 16 tracks respectfully and more Toad means a better Toad disc for your dollar this falls a bit short of what you could and should have. "All You Want" has the eleven tracks listed above and it clocks in at 44:03 of music. You will find wonderful sound quality on this disc but, the songs are so close in energy and spirit to the originals this will serve best as a concert curio as there are only minor changes to be found here.
If you want everything by this wonderful band you gotta have this
BUT
This isn't needed if you already own ton's of Toad.
Three Stars!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Find August 2, 2013
By 'da Hui
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
I didn't know this album existed. Since Toad the Wet Sprocket's premature retirement I'd consoled myself with Glen Phillips' regular output of new music. Found this when I was trying to find info about Toad's new album. Now, I am usually hyper allergic to any musicians re-doing their old hits. How many times have you bought a greatest hits package of some older group or star and found a bunch of reconstituted, drum machine laden, synthesizer dripping crap? Almost always a disappoint with a do over.

Not so with this. I admit I'm prejudiced in that I love Toad The Wet Sprocket. But I was prepared for the worst and was pleasantly surprised to have my faith rewarded. Sounds like you would expect if you found them playing in your favorite bar, the songs, although performed faithfully to the original arrangements are mercifully free of "old guys trying to sound hip" upgrades. No auto tuned vocals or techno driven raves, just clean sounding arrangements that sound as though they used a "no overdubs!" mantra throughout the recording.

If you enjoyed their stuff the first time around, you'll find this collection to your liking. My only fear is that future DJ's will confuse these with the originals. But who am I kidding, who listens to the radio anymore anyways?

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent retake on classic Toad songs April 2, 2012
Format:MP3 Music|Verified Purchase
I love this recording, and recommend it to anyone who doesn't already have a compilation of the Toad hits, or to anyone who wants to hear what Toad sounds like these days.

I love the new energy, and the more "live" or organic feel to the recordings. There is more rock performance energy to these recordings as opposed to the original recordings.

I saw these guys back in the early 90's play at NIU when I was going to school there. This CD is great.
