This review is from: And All Your Children Shall Be Learned: Women and the Study of the Torah in Jewish Law and History (Paperback)
Anyone interested in the history of Jewish women in Jewish history will not be disappointed. This is a well researched book that presents this topic without histrionics or historical revisionism (which is rare in a book dealing with this subject matter). Moreover, it looks at this topic objectively - - not through the prism of western culture. In various times and cultures the pinnacle of success has been measured differently: in Oriental - the warrior, in North American - one who amasses great wealth and in Judaism - The learned one. Traditionally in all cultures women have been barred from the avenue to the greatest success - or so it seems. This books takes a good look at the role of women within Judaism. It dispels many myths while remaining respectful towards this time-honoured system of spirituality.
