Grade 3-5–The first thing one notices about this title is that it does not have even one example of raised Braille lettering. The book attempts too much, including information about Helen Keller, Louis Braille, and other visually impaired people. These brief biographies are fine, but take up so much space that a mere five pages are devoted to "finger reading." Full-page portraits and other photos are included. For biographies of Keller and Braille, stick with David Adler's Helen Keller (Holiday, 2003) and Russell Freedman's Out of Darkness (Clarion, 1997).
