Jean Leinhauser and Rita Weiss' ALL ABOUT CROCHET: THE DICTIONARY OF CROCHET STITCHES AND TECHNIQUES offers a visual guide complete with a lay-flat handy binding and an A-Z format that lends to quick and easy lookup. The layout is small enough to easily fit into a crochet bag and the dictionary packs in explanations of chains, stitches, yarns, and more, with clear illustrations throughout. Any crochet worker will find this an invaluable reference.

I have recently reviewed a number of crochet stitch books and I have to say that this slim volume is not as comprehensive as some. It is compact, easy to use and explains things in detail with good line drawings. The format is an A-Z of crochet techniques and I think that would have been a better title. It gives information on yarns and has a useful abbreviations list. I found the section on Irish crochet useful. Similarly bullion stitch and cable were of interest to me. However, if you are really looking for a crochet stitch dictionary, this is not the book for you, there are better on the market. For crochet techniques, this is very good.

This book "All about Crochet" did not help me one bit. It is so very basic and of little value even to a beginner like myself. I later purchased "Crochet" The Complete Guide by Jane Davis from Amazon and was extremely satisfied. It included the charting system, which I had never heard of. A good start for any newbieAll About Crochet: The Dictionary of Crochet Stitches and Techniques.

I do not recommend this for anyone needing real instruction. The entries are very minimal. For example the section on cables. Its only one entry on how to do ONE CABLE. It includes no instruction or even a "pattern" on cables. Graphics leave alot to be desired on detail as well. Most entries don't even show you how to turn and chain properly, on individual stitch styles. It is a simple, no extras dictionary. You can find more by simply googling the stitch. I may give this to a younger child, but the lack of pattern or real projects would not encourage her to go more than a few stitch rows. I do like the spiral binding, and there is garment size, and hook size conversion chart in the back.

Leave it to these ladies..

Sometimes I just want a quick, clear answer. I have many stitch definition books, but many have long explainations that leave me more confused than when I started. I grabbed this book because the authors were familiar to me, but was thrilled when I opened it looking for an answer..There it was.. just a sentence, a photo and I needed nothing more.

Thanks for keeping it simple ladies!! :)

If you ever forget the "how to" of crochet stitches, this is the "go to" book. Shipping was fast and the book was in great condition.
