5.0 out of 5 stars Now I'm hungry!
I really like this book which lists recipes gathered over the years from various American truck stops. Enough to make your mouth water and your nostrils flare! From the basic to the elaborate, old home style to modern. This book will ensure that some recipes are not lost forever in these days of rapid change.

3.0 out of 5 stars A very intersting read and the recipes are so, so...
The book has some interesting facts and information about many places on the road. That's why I gave this book 3 stars. The book contains some very ecclectic information about sights, people and places on the road. There are interviews with waitresses, truckers, musicians, and even a minister.

Many great, taste-good, feel-good recipes and some amusing anecdotes thrown in as well. A favorite at our house are the "Waffles Supreme".

I have eaten in a lot of truckstops and find the food genrally good. I tried seven recipes in this book, to the letter (no alterations) and none of them tasted like the original delights.

The book has some interesting facts and information about many places on the road. That's why I gave this book 3 stars. The book contains some very ecclectic information about sights, people and places on the road. There are interviews with waitresses, truckers, musicians, and even a minister.

The book is worth three stars because the recipes require some intuitive knowledge, the recipes aren't spelled out in a detailed and concise manner. If you need more information to better understand how a recipe works then this cookbook will be a challenge to you. On the other hand if you can understand a recipe with only four short sentences for the instructions then give this cookbook a try.

Here is a sample of a recipes instructions,
Salad in the Pink

Add the boiling water to the gelatin. Add the pineapple, cranberry sauce, lem rind, nutmeg, cream, and nuts. Pour in a pan or 2 1/2 qt mold. refrigerate to congeal.

This is all the instruction you'll get. A sensible person will know that when you pour the boiling water into the gelatin you need to stir to combine both. The remaining two sentences are self explanatory, the main problem is that the recipes aren't user friendly. This cookbook isn't recommended for the novice cook, you need to know your way around a kitchen if you want to use this book.
