Its been years since I read this book, but it was always one that stuck with me. Another planet wants to visit us, but has seen what we do to aliens on TV. They decide to send an agent to spread the word that they are nice guys. I won't give away any more details than that, but this is a clever book, and really fun to read. The solution to the puzzle of the "message from space" was so simple, it completely escaped me, and I'm usually pretty good with puzzles.

If you like off-the-wall sci-fi, you'll really like this. And it features the best computer in all of sci-fi. Makes HAL look like a toaster.

I read this book in the -70ies. A loan from a library in the other end of the country, and when returned I forgot the author's name AND the title of the book. I have been remembering it from time to time, asked around if anyone remembers a book, -that was funny, contained the phrase "We come in peace", had a man lacking his belly-button (or at least could NOT understand the point of having one) a beautiful woman, working at the Times news-paper in order to prepare Earth for the alien's visit, etc etc and ALWAYS getting a negative answer, none knew what I was talking about.
Today I made a Google search and there it was! Now all I have to do is get my hands on one copy of the book and I'll be a happy woman. I look forward to reading the book again, with a 40 year older mind and after having read a myriad SciFi stories in the interim... Wonder what I will think of it?
