Editorial Reviews

Review

'Hanson's Allegory and Event, was his chief work of Origen scholarship. It remains important as a book that set the tone for several generations of thinkers, and one that continues to influence popular understandings in the English-speaking world of Origen as a biblical theologian.' - John A. McGuckin, Professor of Early Church History, Union Theological Seminary and Columbia University

4.0 out of 5 stars Deeper than the basics, August 23, 2007
By
Wolf Meyer (Cambridge, Mass) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Allegory and Event: A Study of the Sources and Significance of Origen's Interpretation of Scripture (Paperback)
Other works about Origen give outline details of his life and works, and allow the reader only to scratch the surface of this scholar's vast and complicated thought. Hanson's book, on the other hand, presents and develops each of the major elements of Origen's thought, thereby allowing the reader to gain a much deeper level of analysis and interpretation.
