THE MAN IS A GENIUS!,

AMR DIAB has done it yet again! Although many people have not given much credit to this album, this remains to be one of the best he has ever done. The problem is that after two amazing albums Tammalee Ma'ak and Aktar Wahed Beyhebbak, people were expecting too much out of AMR DIAB, but if you listen to this album as an album on its own without comparing it to his two previous albums you will easily realize that it is absolutely INCREDIBLE! With songs like Ana Ayesh (I Am Alive) and the epic Khalleenee Ganbak (Keep Me By Your Side) which is unbelievable and ballads like Te'dar Tetkallem (You Can Speak) the album is A MUST BUY!...

Every once and a while I come across a musician, that initiates a tidal wave of new discoveries, enriches my world beyond what I was able to imagine only moments prior. Amr Diab has been one of these - introduced to me from the brilliant Putumayo CD Arabic Groove. Allem Alby is Amr Diab's latest release from a career that stems over 15 years. Where Amr is adored by the Arabic world for his light hearted pop version of Arabic music, this album mixes together influences from both polar opposites of pop culture: it is a haunting collection of songs that remind you of Billie Holiday's drug hazed crooning blended with the Abba-like melodic pop anthems played with the Egyptian tabla, that will stick to your brain like crazy glue. Every repeated listen reveals yet another influence you haven't thought of previously....it's Beck Hansen, it's Backstreet Boys....it's Boston Pops on the Fourth of July. Amr's phenomenal voice carries both the melodies and the stories to my feeble non-arabic speaking heart, and they're there to stay for life. He'll sooth your soul, melt your heart, and energize your day in 51 minutes plus change. You'll wiggle your hips, jiggle your shoulders, and sway with the songs over and over again, Amr opens up an undiscovered world to so many of us ... the land of romance, melody, and rhythm with an Arabic twist. He has the voice of an angel I can only adore in total awe, and the looks of a Greek ... or should I say an Egyptian God. So is it any wonder that my 10 year old daughter's comment on this CD became the title of this review? This is, and will remain, one of the 'ten deserted island' CD's that will never leave my collection of most cherished music for life.

A Voice for all the World,

I haven't heard every Amr Diab CD, but I've heard 7 or 8 and this is perhaps the best of them so far. There is a strength to both the music writing and the singing on this one that puts it a notch or two above the others.
Amr Diab is becoming more and more appreciated by non-Arabic speakers (like myself - I only know a tiny bit) because he really is an outstanding singer by any standard. He can present some lines in a delicate croon and others in a desperate - but completely musical - cry. And a hundred other moods. You don't really need to know what the words are to FEEL what he's singing about. And it's very easy to put your own emotions or ideas into his voice. My personal favorites on Allem 'Alby are Te'dar Tetkallem (absolutely heartbreaking - to me anyway), Law Ash'any (killer 'ud riffs), Ana 'Ayesh, and Kollohom. But none of the others are weak. I wholeheartedly recommend this album for fans and for anyone curious about Amr Diab.

I must admit that Amr Diab has a pretty fixed style, but I liked this album still.
