I HAVE BEEN AN UNSUCCESSFUL "QUITER" FOR 50+ YEARS. FINDING AND READING THIS BOOK MADE A HUGE DIFFERENCE. IT IS AN APPROACH TO "QUITTING" THAT ACTUALLY "MAKES SENSE". I HAVE READ IT MAY TIMES AND STILL REFER TO IT WHEN THE GOING GET TOUGH. I GAVE IT 5 STARS BECAUSE I HAVE "QUIT" A ZILLION TIMES. THIS WILL BE MY LAST QUIT.

I was told to read this book with an open mind. I have smoked since I was 16 years old (I am now 42 years old) Quit at least 20 times in my life.... always "giving up" smoking. I will say I was "Negative Nelly" throughout the entire book, thinking I would read it and then smoke the next day.... I am NOT kidding you, I put that book down, smoked my last cigarette and went to bed... I woke up a non smoker and never looked back. It has now been one month and I have had ZERO desire to smoke! It is so crazy awesome! I was skeptical just like you are whoever is reading this... (otherwise you wouldn't be reading the reviews) Please Please PLEASE do yourself a favor and get the book and just read it with an open mind...sure it's only been a month since I quit, doesn't sound long until you realize that I have had ZERO temptation, no eating like crazy, no anger or irritation.... When I quit in the past I would hate to be around smokers because I wanted a cigarette.... now ( I am not kidding) I love to be around them because it reminds me how lucky I am to be FREE from that. My husband still smokes, I have NO problem sitting out there with him while he smokes and I drink a beer. (Yes, even drinking does not make me want a cigarette....CRAZY right!) I have tried to get him to read the book...and eventually he will, but that's not my fight to fight...that's his. PLEASE read this book! Have I mentioned I love this book. LOL Allen Carr saved my life!!!! Besides...what have you got to lose? NOTHING! If it does not work for you, you have spent a few bucks... BUT with a success rate of 90% the odds are pretty good that not only will you quit but you will save a LOT more money than the book costs!

I read this book as a skeptic initially. But, after getting through it all the way, I haven't smoked anything for two months. Cold turkey, without any problem. That's really all I have to say about this book. It DOES WORK (at least for me) HIGHLY recommended.

I smoked for about 10 years, it started out small, gradually gained traction, and one day I was addicted. I smoked for many years, thinking I chose this, and that smoking made me happy. I liked being in the "in-crowd", having instant friends because we were all smokers... There were downsides, obviously... the coughing. The expense. The smell, the filth of ashtrays... I overlooked it all, because I was so cool and fab with my 'special' imported cigarettes. Every so often I would attempt to quit, for financial or health reasons, usually. It never, ever worked. I was always right back on them a few days later.

Then one day I got a new flatmate. He was into yoga, dance, healthy stuff, and he HATED my smoking, and clogging up his air. I smoked at one end of the house, he did yoga at the other, and he constantly nagged that my smoking was travelling the hallways. I ignored him. My sense of smell was screwed anyway, but I was paying most of the rent, so I could do what I liked. Eventually, I saw this book on a shelf at a shop. I remembered a friend not so long back saying that their dad had quit smoking from reading some book. I assumed it was the same one. I bought it, just to shut my flatmate up. I went home, said "SEE! I'm reading the book, now get off my case, and leave me alone with my happy little smoking habit!!" And I started to read it. Conspicuously. So he would see I was 'trying' to quit. I wasn't. I had no intention of quitting, i "loved" smoking. I just wanted him to shut up for a while.

Let me tell you, by about 3/4 of the way through this book, I was no longer a smoker. I looked at the cigarette in my hand, as it burned down, i stubbed it out. I sat there thinking for a moment. I emptied the ashtray and put it in the outside bin.

I was a smoker for a LONG time, forty years plus. And like all of you, I tried it all; the patch (forgot I was wearing it, went out for a few cocktails, smoked like crazy and was sick as a dog the next morning); the gum (tasted like dirt, tossed it out); SmokeEnders (remember them?), you name it. Including cold turkey, which only got worse as time went out. I would eat food I didn't want until I was nearly sick, cravings like I couldn't believe. So I was skeptical about a mere book doing much good. Please, if you smoke and want to quit, get this book. After reading the reviews, I expected a huge epiphany (what I call a forehead-slapper), but it wasn't like that at all. Just small tweaks to the way you think about cigarettes and smoking, but believe me, it works. It's been a month today and I can truthfully say it was the easiest thing I ever did. The first day or so there were VERY mild cravings, and that was it. Don't believe it? Get the book. It's the best thing you'll ever do for yourself.

I was skeptical but eager to quit smoking, and I found the book to be immensely helpful. Carr crawls into the mind of a smoker, having been one himself, so he knows all the tricks and justifications.

I read another book comparing smoking to drug addiction but chafed at the idea. Here, the author backs it up and shows the reader just how insidious and unenjoyable smoking/nicotine really is. He walks you down the hallway of lies smokers tell themselves and closes each one, leaving you no choice but to face not only your addiction, but yourself.

I actually felt the change come over me as I read the book and found myself forgetting to smoke. Now, I can pour my energy into something constructive like breathing, living, and moving forward.
