What I expected,

This review is from: Allen Company Gun Cleaning Kit (in Aluminum Box, 60 Piece) (Sports)
This kit is great in that it has all the parts you want for cleaning guns, and it will do the job, but...
The insert that holds all the parts in the case is cheap plastic. It will do the job, but I would like to have seen heavier duty plastic. Mine has a crack in the corner of it. When closed and moved around, a few of the parts jump out of their homes and move around. I added a couple pieces of craft foam and it fixed that. The parts are cheapish, and it takes a few minutes to figure out how all the little connectors are supposed to work together. The adapters are aluminum, not steel. The jags are plastic. There is a double ended pick that is also plastic, and cheap enough that I will be shocked if it holds up. The brushes and swabs are good quality. The patches are a joke. It is a great starter kit that will accommodate almost any gun you want to throw it at. If that is what you are looking for, nab this thing. It won't last forever, but it will definitely get the job done. The picture is not what I received when I ordered this item, but close enough. I bought metal jigs that go right into the pieces of this kit, so the sizes are universal.

ignore the picture because you do not get everything in the picture, not even 60 pieces as advertised. straight up theft by deception! false advertised! sell what is in the picture or picture exactly what you sell it is simple to be HONEST!

In several ways, the item is not what is shown in the picture. I chose this kit, rather than one of the many competitors, based upon the picture. For example, the pictures show each cleaning rod handle with the first section attached; it is not. The rod must be completely disassembled each time.
In general, this is disappointing. When buying online, the pictures are very important. They are an important part of understanding what you will receive; you can't look at the item, as you can in a conventional store. Otherwise, the item is adequate. The case is cute, but the parts are cheaply made. Of course, you'll need another case to hold solvent and oil since they are not included.

I have owned several cleaning kits in the last few years to identify the best kits for novice users. I am a firearms instructor and many of my students are just learning how to shoot and maintain a firearm. This kit is going back after 10 minutes of use. 1) The long handled brass brush shed bristles upon first use. Not just one or two; my pistol slide was covered in shed bristles after one pass. 2) The plastic cleaning tips are flimsy, and need to be used in conjunction with a tip adapter; they don't fir directly on the brass rods. 3) A cleaning tip broke after several passes through a .40 pistol barrel, and it broke off at the base. So now the tip adapter has broken plastic in it (some novices would not know how to back that out) rendering all pistol components useless - no way to attach them to the brass rods. 4) No description on how to use mops, attach parts together, use picks, etc. A novice would be lost trying to use this kit. 5) As others have mentioned, the storage tray is flimsy and on opening the case, several parts were already just floating around in the case. Had to hunt for the smaller parts. The Otis kit is more expensive but uses brass cleaning tips (a BIG plus) so no worries about breaking. Think I'll stick with that for now.

I got a nice aluminum box out of this deal. I bought this for a .22 caliber pistol. I got the universal type because it has some tools you just don't get with a .22 caliber kit. This kit had no mop for a .22. The rod for the .22 did not match the brushes or the jags and did not include an adapter that would work with either. This company obviously has zero quality control! I had to go buy a .22 caliber kit to make it work! Save your money - get a different brand.

First off the kit is practically useless for a .22 rifle. There is no .22 swab. The .22 brush and slotted tip cannot be attached to the 4mm brass rods so you're pretty much out of luck getting this thing down a barrel of a .22 rifle (because you can only attach it to the 6mm rods). There's an adapter that I suspect is supposed to allow you to attach the .22 brush and slotted tip to the 4mm brass rods but for some reason all it serves as is an extender (1/2 inch). I think it was meant to give you the option to attach the .22 bits to the 4 mm brass rod but there was some mix up. The .20 cal and below brushes attach just fine to the 4mm brass rod without an adapter and *can* be used for a .22 but, of course, they are slightly too small.
The .20 cal and the .17 cal brushes have brass threading while everything else has, what I think, may be zinc, aluminum, or some other softer metal. The converters are also of this softer metal. Threading isn't perfect so it takes some effort to attach parts together. These bits won't last long. The nylon and wire brushes are fine. This kit comes with a good number of cleaning patches. If you're looking for a product for a bore greater than 6mm then this will do fine. Your only worry is the less-than-acceptable threading on the brushes and swabs.

I was happy with what I received. It's a pretty complete kit (minus the oil and solvents of course), and will clean anything from a .177 pellet rifle to a 12ga shotgun.
Wish the jags weren't plastic, but they should hold up for a while.

This was overpriced for what it offers. Most of the stuff wasn't built to last. The case looks nice but is cheap and isn't very functional. All the stuff kind of rolls around in it after you close it. Would not recommend, would not purchase again.
