I own two pairs of these shoes, purchased before the switch to the Dominican Republic manufacturing facility.

They do seem about half a size small if I'm wearing them with socks. Typically you don't wear boat shoes with socks but I can't stand going sockless so I use the loafer liners sold here on Amazon and they are great. With these liners on in place of socks, the sizing seems more in line with what I expect and I wonder if AE hasn't taken this into consideration when they size these shoes.

They are quite stiff for something that's supposed to be so casual and comfortable. The tradeoff I suppose is that they appear as though they'll last for years and they are recraftable I believe. At least they were advertised as such when I bought my US made pairs. I sped up the break in period by slipping five or six pairs of athletic socks on my shoe trees and leaving them in the shoes for several weeks to stretch. After that I would either only wear them on short excursions or I would take an extra pair of shoes with me so I could change them out once they started hurting my feet. And believe me, they will. After about a year they are now at a point where they are actually quite comfortable and fit my foot like a glove. I can also say that they still look brand new even after my tromping through all manner of things and generally abusing them in my attempts to soften them up and make them mine so to speak.

If you're looking for something that you can throw on right out of the box and walk all day in I would say look elsewhere but if you're willing to put in a little effort, they can wind up being rather nice. I love the styling and the construction is what you would expect from AE assuming the quality of the DR mfg house is up to snuff.

I purchased these as replacements for Allen Edmonds Eastport Boat Shoes that I purchased 3+ years ago. The previous pair were great shoes and I would give them a 5 star rating. The only reason I tossed them was the stitching came loose around the side of one toe. AE does not re-condition these shoes.

The coloring of the leather and laces is different from the previous set, not bad just different. The sole is exactly the same as the original (and that was very long lasting). The stitching appears different,.. just a tad thinner than the previous version,..and they are made in the Dominican Republic now. They are just as comfortable as the "originals",..so based on sole and comfort (+) and thinner stitching and no longer made in USA (-), I give them three stars,..if they wear as well as the previous and last as long,.. I will up the rating...worn for casual wear at office and out in town once to twice a week,.... occasionally while actual boating.

Well, I'm very disappointed. I bought these shoes to replace a previous model I bought about 10 years ago but I've returned the new shoes after wearing them a couple of times. The stitching on the top part of the shoes that the laces pass under were hurting my feet, so when I looked in one of the shoes to see what was causing the pressure, I discovered stamped on inside of the the tongue the following (the writing was very small so it was difficult to read): "Allen Edmonds Made in Dominican Republic" or something similar. Exactly what was stamped there isn't important, what is important to me is the "Made in Dominican Republic" part.

Based on the Amazon listing, I thought I was buying shoes made in the USA - this is clearly stated in the Amazon listing - but these shoes are NOT! While I don't mind supporting other countries' economies to an extent (this is almost unavoidable these days, especially since most everything is made in China now, after all), I do prefer to buy US when I can. And I certainly don't like paying US-made prices for shoes made in what I believe is a low-wage country like the Dominican Republic. Had I known from the beginning that these were not US-made, I would not have purchased these shoes at the listed price.

While I don't believe that Amazon intended to deceive, and with millions of listings a mistake is understandable, in the end I really just want a pair of Allen Edmonds Eastport Boat Shoes made in the USA, especially at over $170 a pair. Because I didn't get what I thought I had purchased, I had to return the shoes. 'Nuff said.

UPDATE 1: Right after writing this review I looked at other reviews and found several that mentioned that these shoes are now made in the Dominican Republic rather than Maine.

One of the reasons for my purchase was the local manufacture of this shoe, but the shoe clearly states "Dominican Republic" . How difficult is it to get the facts straight? The right lace is three inches shorter than the left. Usually a simple fix, but not with this shoe. the entire shoe has to be relaced. Disappointed.

I ORDERED THESE SHOES AND FOUND THEM TO BE A NARROWER FIT THAN I EXPECTED. I WANTED TO REPLACE THEM WITH A WIDER SHOE, BUT WAS GOING TO BE CHARGED $75.00 FOR A REORDER.

You don't plan on using this on the boat. I wore it on the boat for one summer and the sole started to separate. Runs extremely narrow, I had to order a EEE.
