5.0 out of 5 stars AE Shoes are great, and a great value
These, like all my AE shoes are great. Well made with quality leathers, fully lined, and distinctive in their understated way. The upfront cost of AE shoes may look high but when taken care of correctly they will last many people well over a decade and still look new.

As an added bonus these are some of the last shoes to be made in the USA.

1.0 out of 5 stars amazon buyers beware
Over the years I've owned several pairs of Allen Edmonds shoes, each of which I've purchased from my local menswear retailer and each of which bears the brand's extraordinary craftsmanship and attention to detail. I expected no less from the pair of AE McAllisters that I recently purchased from Amazon, and I was amazed by the fast turn-around--I ordered them on a Sunday...

5.0 out of 5 stars Elegant and well made shoe, December 3, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I returned the Johnston and Murphy's I had just purchased after these arrived and I could compare them side by side. Actually when they sat on the counter, we all thought the J&M had the edge cosmetically, but once on the feet everybody agreed the Allen Edmounds just looked classier. I've been working through the break-in period, but really can't say that I've had any issues with comfort during a normal day. I probably wouldn't wear these to travel until they've Sen a lot more miles however. Overall I'm very pleased.

5.0 out of 5 stars Timeless shoe, October 28, 2011
I actually came upon this shoe while thrifting. I found an old Walnut pair for $1.95 in my size. They were a little worn, but looked amazing when worn with casual attire. I have since ordered new pairs in Black and Walnut. Incredible shoe that seems to last forever.

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Over the years I've owned several pairs of Allen Edmonds shoes, each of which I've purchased from my local menswear retailer and each of which bears the brand's extraordinary craftsmanship and attention to detail. I expected no less from the pair of AE McAllisters that I recently purchased from Amazon, and I was amazed by the fast turn-around--I ordered them on a Sunday night and by Tuesday afternoon they were at my door.

Yet the shoes that Amazon sent were appallingly disappointing: not only were they the wrong size (a 12 rather than the 11 that I ordered), and not only did they have a rubber sole and heel (rather than the oak leather sole and custom heel that's on every other pair of McAllisters I've ever owned or seen), but they were clearly, unmistakably USED: the vamp was deeply creased at the instep; the heel pocket leather was glossy and dark with wear; the laces were kinked and frayed; the sole was worn; the toes were badly scuffed, and there was a thin veneer of crud all along the welt. Even with a cursory glance, one could tell that someone else had worn the shoes for some time before sending them back. And then Amazon turned around and sold them to me as new.

The thing, though, is this: I'm not the only one who has received AE shoes like this from Amazon. Shortly after I received my shoes, I came across a thread on one of the better-known menswear internet discussion boards in which a number of AE customers registered strikingly similar complaints. I returned the shoes to Amazon, but who knows? You might be the one who gets them next.

In short, I will continue to buy Allen Edmonds shoes, but not from Amazon. Caveat emptor!
