The McTavish Oxford offers a new take on the classic street shoes. Features a wax infused leather, double oak toasted leather soles, and a classic American styling that is experiencing a resurrection in the men's fashion industry. Paired with casual clothing, these styles give off a fresh, young vibe for the modern urban man.
The McTavish from Allen Edmonds recalls a time when men believed a coat and tie was considered casual wear. The burnished and brogued leather upper carries the weight of pure tradition though the ages, while a lace up front ensures a perfect fit. The leather beneath sole delivers a steady confident step from the boardroom to the social club and everywhere between.See all Product Description

An important note on these, which relates to the sizing. Order a full size smaller than what you would normally wear. For example, in running shoes, I wear a size 11, and in some dress shoes I may wear a 10.5. I knew these ran big so I got the 10.5 instead of 11. Wow, they were just too big. I returned to AE - and their customer service is excellent - and got a size 10 and they fit great. I have been wearing J&M shoes for 20+ years but am switching out to AE shoes when I buy new ones as AE's are made right here in the good ol' USA.
A minor note, you should use saddle soap on these instead of black polish, as the black polish would stick to the brown stitching and ruin the look of the shoe.
$300 may seem like a lot for a pair of shoes, but if you treat them right, such as using shoe trees, they will last you 15+ years. Great product. The matching belt is the Lamar, which is about $100. Note that the belt is 38mm wide instead of 35mm so it is a little wider than a normal dress belt and may not fit your belt loops as well in your pants.
UPDATE 9/29/2013 - This has quickly become one of my favorite pairs of shoes. So much so that I have ordered a second pair in gray.
I got the McTavish in the black wax infused leather (called "dark black" on this site). They have all the good looks of a wing tip oxford, but the waxed leather and the slightly contrasting sole and stitching give this shoe a more casual look that can be dressed up or down. I've gotten several compliments on these shoes, as I do with all of my AE shoes. Sizing on these particular shoes seems to be fairly accurate, but possibly a bit on the narrow side as is the case with most Allen Edmonds shoes. If you're not sure, I recommend going somewhere you can physically try on these shoes. Or make sure you can easily return them at no cost if the fit isn't right. My shoes felt a bit snug on my right foot, but the next size up was too big. After wearing these a few times they feel just perfect. I simply love them.
If you take care of your shoes, and repair them when needed, these shoes will last for years and is worth every penny of the purchase price.
On the other hand, be sure to order a full size down to ensure an appropriate fit. I normally wear a 9.5 in boots, sneakers, boat shoes, etc. but ordered an 8.5 on the recommendation of other reviewers. The 8.5 fits perfectly. In short, I would highly recommend this specific pair, as well as any Allen Edmonds product.

Shoes look good. I normally wear Alden but I figured I would give old Allen's a try. They are a little large. But I just lace them up a little tighter.Published 17 months ago by Hiker
