Amazon.com

Made by Allen Bike Racks, this adaptor bar adds a top tube to your bicycle frame so that it can be installed properly on a bicycle carrier. It's designed to be used with hard-to-mount bike frames, such as full-suspension bikes, women's bikes, or other non-conventional designs. The bar features an internal spring that maintains constant tension to keep your bike secure. The product is designed to fit bikes that have a distance of 16 inches to 27 inches between the seat post and the stem, and installation is easy. Plastic-coated hooks are there to protect the finish of your bike.

I use this tension bar to help hold my wife's bike on an Allen bike rack, and it works well.
Wiglaf75
Now with this bar it will make it much easier for transporting and I won't have to worry about taking it anywhere and will fit on any rack.
C. Gartz
The hook is protected with rubber whereas the end with the pin is NOT so be careful with this it will scratch your bike!

The bar does exactly what it is intended for. However, on the packaging of the bar it specifically says the distance from the seat post to handle bar post needs to be at least 18 inches, no where does it say that on the online write up. So, it doesn't work for my daughters' bikes. Something to be aware of.

Very handy item for multiple bikes on a rack. Keeps from having one bike tilted at an awkward position from the other(s). Very easy to use, just be careful as the spring tension can fool you and you can get a finger pinched. It only took one pinch and now I can set the bikes up like a pro.

This bar is very stout and capable of staying in place. I use it to mount two expensive Treks and feel confident the bikes will stay in place at 70mph on highway. When I picked up my new Treks, the service tech commented on the quality of the bar and asked who makes it, where I got it etc...he was impresssed of it's quality. The rubber end coatings interface well and won't harm bikes' finishes. Both my treks have different frame configurations, the bar adjusted easily.

I bought this thinking that this will help me solve the problem of taking my daughter's bike everywhere (a woman's bike)... Oh boy, was I SO WRONG...

Before I tell you what happened, I do admit that this is a pretty easy set up and it seems sturdy enough - but it all end there.

As it happened, we are going for a cycle ride and I strapped both of our bicycles safely and correctly on the rack and went. Not far from the house, the retainer pin didn't managed to keep hold of the bike thus the quick release pins gave way... the result of the bike's big thump on the road and when you are driving it will not be an option to just stop right away resulting the need to dragged the bike to a safe place to park and sort the problem.

When I stopped and looked at the bar itself, I've found out that the retainer pin just broke in half. THIS IS A DANGEROUS FLAW in the design. Both the retainer and the quick release pins are not sturdy enough to carry the weight of the bike (even though it is a light bike) and I am driving in a pretty safe speed, this does not help with the flaw.

This cause the problem for my daughter's bike and I am so glad that it didn't cause a major accident. This might happen...

LIKE I SAID,THIS IS A FLAW IN THEIR PRODUCT.

I would not be buying this product again. Next time, I would think before I buy cheap stuff as you get what you pay for...

This bar works well and has held my bike on our rack for about 10 trips without issue. My only quibble with the product is its seeming desire to eat my fingers while being installed.

Bought these on a picture they had that showed a different configuration and with rubber at both ends to protect the bike's finish. Got them with the metal pins that will scratch and gouge the finish of your stem or wherever it contacts the bike. I ended up putting foam insulation for pipes (from home depot) cut to fit between the pins and the bike and this remedied the scratching and gouging issues it is not practical though as I have to have some foam at hand always as they will eventually wear out the foam. I later bought a Saris bar and it is way better and is better designed and has not scratched or gouged any of my bikes.

I have driven well over 5000 miles on BMX and Mountain Bikes with these and have never had a pin come undone or bend, but the scratching and gouging issue is the deal breaker here, I would not recommend at all!

It's a nice to have but didn't fit my bike as the instructions suggested. To use this product I had to install it backwards from the directions since my seat post was thicker and had a shock absorber in the post. I have a Giant Sedona, medium size frame. Seems to work ok either way.
