Update April 11, 2015: After sleeping on it a few days, I had to remove it. At first I loved it! Then I started noticing a slight crunch sound when I turned that I did not hear before. Also, it just did not feel as soft under the fitted sheet, which is odd because the pad itself is soft. Now that it is off the master bedroom, I placed it in the guest room. I will see if my guests like it.

When I selected this, I was not that excited. I figured it was another mattress pad. I have a lot of extra pads on my memory foam bed so I did not know if I needed it. However, the day I selected it I had been sneezing for days with spring allergies. I know memory foam does not get a lot of what is mattress protects, however, the other pads I have on it does.

The day I received it I was pleasantly surprised at how soft it felt. I also noticed how well the stitching was done. I washed it in hot water and it washed well. I dried it, it did take longer than my other linens to dry, I have a setting I use and I had to run it longer on my dryer.

I figured it would be a struggle to get it on my mattress. I have a 16 inch with a lot of toppers. The fitted sheer barely goes over it. I was shocked it fit and even pulled in the other toppers. It has a nice sleek feel to it and has a little padding to it as well.

Sleeping on it, I like that you can’t hear it, it feels a bit cool under my fitted sheet which is nice since it is so warm outside now. I have noticed I have not sneezed as much in bed but obviously my allergies are still in full force with it being spring.

I have to say I am really impressed. This is not just another mattress protector; it is made well and feels great! And knowing it protects you from several allergens at night, that is worth it if you have allergies and asthma.

AllerEase is a high quality mattress pad with tight smooth weaves that fits my 12-inch deep queen mattress. Our family suffers with severe seasonal allergies. Hot wash is critical for killing dust mites as well as staph, E coli and other germs and bacteria. I want a pad that I can abuse in hot water because I don’t want to replace the pad when we get sick or when I need to deep clean our bedrooms. My initial hot water test wash did not shrink the pad.

I like airing our bedroom with the cool morning air each morning. Our bedroom has screens and dust and pollen is weekly cleaned from floors and hard surfaces. Now we can clean the linens down to the pad and regularly wash everything during allergy seasons.

I’ll admit I was skeptical of the importance or even relevance of an allergy cover with the new waterproof protectors now on the market. We were given a waterproof pad with our purchase of a Tempur-Pedic bed last year. The AllerEase is not waterproof. But my waterproof must be washed on gentle warm cycle. The waterproof covers have no padding and have a sticky plasticized feel.

The Allerease has modest padding. It is to my touch the feel of high quality cotton fabric. And like our quality bed linen has good breathability. I like that it is chemical and pesticide free. I like it and recommend this pad for both children’s rooms and for those who want a hot wash pad for allergies, pet dander and dust mites.

My cons are:
'More padding would make this more comfortable and
'If only Allerease was also waterproof. Warrantees on so many of the new mattresses are voided by liquid spills. On the other hand, our waterproof pad was $100 for a queen and in a light bamboo fabric, I don't think the waterproof pad will last that long.

The best thing about this product is the feel of it. Nice to the touch, strong, yet soft. It fits perfectly and easily over my queen-size mattress. I simply have no real complaints about it. So why only 4 stars? I have questions!

Here's why: maybe I'm missing something, but after I read and reread the packaging, examined the cover for myself, and tried it out, I was still left with an uneasy feeling. It says it is "chemical and pesticide free," but then what makes it "hypoallergenic"? Just the fiber fill? So what's in the fiber fill? How exactly does it protect you against "dust and other allergens"? What gives it a "natural allergy protection"? I don't imagine much dust will creep under your spread, your blanket and your sheets to where AllerEase is lying. Most of us use fitted sheets, after all. The packaging says it "can be washed regularly in hot water to kill germs and bacteria including staph and E. coli." However, isn't that the function of soap? And hot water? How does that have anything to do with this cover? It's like saying the sun will dry your clothes as long as you hang them on the line. As for mites, experts have been telling us that to get rid of them make sure you use the hottest water to wash and the hottest heat to dry. I've been doing this for years with no shrinkage or ill-effects. But don't make claims for a product and jack the price up over it when the same claims can be made of many other, less expensive, similar products.

Lastly, I discovered that the cover made the surface of my bed just a little firmer. This isn't a big deal unless your mattress is perfect the way it is and now it's not as soft as before.
