I thought for the $100+ price tag the material would be more durable and thick. I read online journals discouraging consumers from purchasing "cheap" mattress encasements because they tear easily and so on. I didn't think Allerzip, which was praised for its product dependability, would be categorized as "cheap." I did not wash it prior to encasing my mattress, and 2 weeks after carefully inspecting the encasement, I saw a tear on the corner. It must have happened when I was doing what people normally do on beds: lay, sleep, sit, and roll around a bit. So caution to others, it rips VERY easily, and I imagine washing it in a non-agitating washing machine is a definite must. As for trapping bed bugs inside, without any tears or rips, I think it will stand up to the job, but regular visual inspection is a must because bed bugs may still locate to the bed, at which time, spotting then removing them is more easily done.

I ordered this cover as, after I moved into a new home, condensation formed on the bottom of my mattress quickly ruining it. I bought a new bed (the old one was a captain's bed and was fully enclosed not allowing for air circulation) and a new mattress. After spending the money to do this I wanted additional protection and went looking for a mattress cover. It was difficult finding one that protected the entire mattress and not just the top side.

This cover is definitely waterproof on all six sides, it's comfortable, and it doesn't sound like I'm laying on plastic when I go to bed -- in fact it doesn't make any additional noise at all.

It took a little bit of work to get it on my mattress, but I was able to do it myself. As my mattress is still new I'm flipping it once a week -- while one side of the cover is made of terry cloth and is intended to be on the top of the bed -- I don't want to take the time to take the cover off and put it back on every week so I just sleep on whatever side ends up on the top and it doesn't seem to make much of a difference. It's nice to have the extra security to keep the mattress safe since it's not cheap or easy to replace.

Overall the cover is a great fit, can be put on by one person without too much work, keeps the mattress safe from moisture on all six sides, and doesn't feel or sound like your mattress is covered in plastic.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good mattress cover, March 2, 2009
This review is from: AllerZip Waterproof Bed Bug Proof Zippered Bedding Encasement, Queen Size (Fits 7 - 12 in. H)
This mattress cover is working well so far. I like the fact that it zippers completely around the mattress. I do not know if it protects against bed bugs. I bought it as a precautionary measure since I have been hearing about increased infestations in the city where I live. The cover initially had a chemical smell to it but that went away after airing it out. You need two people to put the cover on the mattress.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Product - Does What You Need It To Do., January 17, 2010
This review is from: AllerZip Waterproof Bed Bug Proof Zippered Bedding Encasement, Queen Size (Fits 7 - 12 in. H)
My apartment had bedbugs, and they were a nightmare to get rid of. I bought my mattress only 2 years ago - and I spent around 3k on it, because I wanted a top-quality, super-comfortable mattress that would last for years. So the idea that I might have to toss it really upset me.

Before having the apartment (and mattresses) treated, the exterminator told us to buy mattress covers so that we could seal the mattresses up after they had been sprayed. He recommended this brand specifically.

Getting the cover on was a huge pain, but what can a person expect when trying to wrestle a queen-sized mattress into a cover? However, once the mattress was settled into the cover, the mattress cover zipped up quickly & easily. It also comes with little mini-zip ties - you use the ties to latch the zipper pull onto a loop in the cover, so that it's impossible for the cover to even become unzipped.

I've been using this cover for about 6 months now. It hasn't torn or frayed - and my mattress sits on steel beams (I don't have a box spring) - though I did make sure those beams didn't have any sharp edges to snag the cover on.

I treat the mattress carefully when I change the sheets, but overall, I sleep on the bed nightly, I don't do anything extraordinary to take care of it, and it's still working great - no bedbugs for over 6 months now!

1.0 out of 5 stars Waterproof? Not at all, February 2, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: AllerZip Waterproof Bed Bug Proof Zippered Bedding Encasement, Queen Size (Fits 7 - 12 in. H)
Originally I purchased this cover out of fear that the inexpensive mattress cover I had on my foam mattress would not protect it from water, bedbugs, etc. Just recently, due to the winter weather water leaked from the ceiling onto my bed. Was it protected by this product? Not at all, the bed was soaked completely through. Usually I am pretty happy with my Amazon purchases, so much so that I don't really comment on products. However, this was an exception.I am so disappointed that I wasted my money on this. Just double up on your $5.99 mattress cover and you should be fine. This is too expensive and will not protect your bed.

5.0 out of 5 stars The only solution to bed bug problem., September 29, 2008

This mattress cover is the only solution to the bed-bug problem. I have tried all types of chemicals and kept the house clean but in my experience once your house is infested there is really no 100% solution other than throwing your mattress. This cover at least saves mattress (I have already thrown one). I strongly recommend to any one with bed bug infestation problem to buy this cover along with the cover for the box spring. Naveen

4.0 out of 5 stars Just received it!, March 16, 2010

I just got this today for our Queen size bed, so cannot say yet if it's good against bed bugs (will add results in a few months). I was able to put it on our mattress all by myself taking extra precautions to avoid any damage to the cover & in about 5-10 mins. Please bear in mind that the description says it fits mattresses up to 13" but when I got it the package, said it was for 9" mattresses so I was a bit reluctant to open it only to find it may not fit (not sure if it'd be returnable). Luckily, it fit fine ( we have a plush top Sealy mattress) with a bit of room to spare w/o it being overly tight (if too tight & the zipper may strain causing the "teeth" to open & defeat the purpose). So just be aware of that before buying, for those that have plush pillow top mattresses, as a 9" Queen cover would be too small. If you need a specific size, Luna brand covers give you the option to choose but these are just as good.

I am hoping this will solve the mystery of the bites I've been getting. I just may be allergic to something in the bedding & may not be a bed bug issue although I am still having a professional come in & inspect my home. Either way, it makes me feel better knowing my mattresses are protected now & in the future.

Update to follow soon on performance.

2.0 out of 5 stars Poor Quality check, January 27, 2009
This review is from: AllerZip Waterproof Bed Bug Proof Zippered Bedding Encasement, Queen Size (Fits 7 - 12 in. H)
I bought this item because my wife seemed to be allergic to something in our bedroom and I figured it was likely to be dust. The plus for this item is that it did seem to reduce my wifes itching and as a result it served it purpose on that end. The reason I am giving it 2 stars is that after struggling to put it into my king bed, I realized the zipper did not close. Imagine spending half an hour picking up and pulling a huge bed and then realizing that the item did not function as it was supposed to. There are other complaints about this from other reviewers for this company so you should be aware of this before dropping a hundred dollars on it like I did.

4.0 out of 5 stars Provided immediate relief, though a bit expensive, May 13, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: AllerZip Waterproof Bed Bug Proof Zippered Bedding Encasement, Queen Size (Fits 7 - 12 in. H)
I bought this out of frustration. I don't know how we got bedbugs after living in a newly constructed house for over two years. Maybe we brought these devilish cretures from our trips or from movie theaters, anyway I was the only one in the house who is visibly getting bit. I know the rest of the folks at home got bit too but nobody cared for my misery since I was the only one to develop these nasty bumps and hellish itch. I would have sold the house gladly just to be rid of this problem. I have read that bed bugs can transmit bloodborne diseases too. So I bought this mattress cover and diatomaceous earth, spread some on top of the box mattress and under the bed. What a relief! No more bites. It was easy to use though you would need another person to hold up the mattress. I got the pillows protectors too. If it weren't for the price, I would have given this a 5. I'm trying Luna instead for the next bedroom. I'll compare that with Protect-a-Bed once I get them.
