This review is from: Wedge Pillow for Acid Reflux with Allergen Barrier Cover. Doctor Recommended. Patented Folding Wedge Pillow for GERD, Sleep Apnea, Snoring. 32" L, 24" W, 7" H. (Health and Beauty)
I bought this wedge after experiencing stomach acid problems that were not being resolved even with the highest strength medications (prescription). My doctor said that I needed to try to use a lesser type of medication, so I looked into other ways to reduce this problem. I tried this wedge and found that it worked surprisingly well. The dynamics are very simple - keeping your stomach lower than your esophagus during the night really helps! It took me about 3 nights before I started to get used to sleeping this way. Now, I can't sleep comfortably without it. When we go to a hotel, I get about 4 extra pillows to create this wedge. However, the wedge is the most effective way to do this. Although it's expensive (the reason I didn't put 5 stars), the value is that it works.

I was skeptical, but not anymore. I used to pop bedside Tums and Rolaids all night, but now they sit lonesome in the medicine cabinet. This pillow is rather pricy, but it's worth it to save your life (i.e. reduce the risk of esophageal cancer). It comes with a zippered white synthetic case which fully encloses the pillow, plus a second white cloth cover that fits over the top. The wedge folds into a neat rectangular shape and comes in a durable plastic bag for transport/storage. No nasty foam-vapor smell that I can detect so it's easy on the lungs too.

I've had this pillow for half a year and find that I rarely use it. Maybe if you're a really sound sleeper this type of product will work for you, but otherwise you're better off tilting the entire bed if you are able. Although this pillow has a fairly gentle slope, it still bends you at an awkward angle when you're sleeping on your side, plus the cover is fairly slippery so there's a tendency to slide down as you sleep. inevitably after the first couple of hours of lying on it I end up throwing it onto the floor. On the plus side, the pillow itself is fairly comfortable once you get used to it and it does fold up, although it still takes up quite a bit of room when it's not in use. The product itself seems to be well made. My rating is based on the fact that the angle seems to be too much for truly comfortable sleeping but not enough to help with reflux. If you've used wedge pillows before and find them helpful then I would definitely recommend this product, but for me it just didn't work well enough to make up for the downside.

I think this is a very nice product. Not many wedges on the market that are truly long enough to help with GERD. They really need to be 30 inches long so that they reach the hips, not just propping up head and shoulders which would put pressure on the stomach, which you DO NOT want if you have GERD. I wish it had some kind of built in pillow, or way to attatch a pillow to it, but you can't have everything. I use a memory foam pillow with it and it works very nicely, except my pillow and I tend to slide down some nights. That said, all the wedges on the market are overpriced, this one included. But if you have GERD and are desperate for relief, you will pay it. I'm happy that I did. I have GERD and Obstructive Sleep Apnea and this wedge helps me sleep better with my cpap machine. I'm 35, female and not obese, by the way. Anyone can have apnea, not just fat people. So, if you snore, have symptoms of depression, and are excessively fatigued, talk to your doctor about getting a sleep study! GERD is strongly associated with sleep apnea, as is high blood pressure, diabetes, heart conditions and strokes. Don't put it off, cpap treatment could save your life.

"It took a couple of nights for me to adjust to the wedge pillow. I have had it for about one month and I love mine now. It has helped me sleep much deeper and reduced my problems with snoring, coughing, reflux, and sleep apnea. I bought a second one for my husband--after a couple of nights he still could not get used to it. We gave it to our 33-year-old daughter and she says it has helped her sleep better from the very first night."

New review - My Life with Medslant: This thing is super awesome. My morning post-nasal sludge situation continues to be about 90% better. I've gotten over the problem of how to sleep on it comfortably - get a contour pillow, one of those memory foam ones with the groove in the middle for your head Serta 2.5-Pound Memory Foam Contour Pillow. If I've got a contour pillow, the Medslant, and two pillows on either side of me (I put my arms on these), I can sleep better than I have in years. I usually fall asleep on my back. I used to toss and turn, but with the Medslant and the contour pillow, I pretty much stay on my back all night.Does that sound weird? ps - I'd change my rating to 5 stars but it won't let me. pps - I've recommended this pillow to my cousin, who has way bad sludge issues. She's tried a cheap knock-off o' Medslant in the past, and hated it. She's also tried propping herself up on pillows. Nothing helped until she got the Medslant. Her life is now blossoming in new ways. Get this pillow ASAP. Here's my old review: I really didn't believe in the whole GERD deal, not 'till I used this pillow and am 90% better in the morning. I still haven't figured out how to sleep comfortably, though. I wasn't sleeping terribly comfortably before, but, with the pillow, I do tend to slide down the wedge. I'm still working it out. Maybe a different kind of head pillow would help. But, as far as GERD is concerned, this pillow is super awesome. Maybe you should get one. You might have GERD.

I have been suffering with GERD for the past 6 months now. I discovered a few months' back from a GERD forum that either raising the head of your bed or getting a special wedge pillow helps keep the acid monkeys down. With that said, raising the head of the bed is not very doable for spouses, as I've discovered, so the pillow was the next option. The MedSlant is very comfortable and can be used with your normal pillow. I do see one fault to it (hence the 4 stars), in that it is not wide enough for those of us that sleep on our side. It takes some adjusting to figure out how to turn while sleeping on the pillow. I wish they would sell an "exra-wide" version of the pillow. The only other negative is that I slip down the pillow, but I don't fault the pillow itself, it's just physics, I guess. I compensate by putting another pillow around my knees and that takes care of that. I got the pillow with allergen barrier cover just in case, since I suffer from seasonal allergies. I have not been sneezing more or less, so I guess it works.

it was a wise decision to purchase this pillow. i got it for my hiatyl hernia and gerd. it has alleviated my gerd, and that in itself was great, but in addition, my husband reports my snoring has decreased to normal decibel levels and he hasn't noticed any apnea since i began using the pillow. i also have noticed i am sleeping better (more REM level sleep). the only drawback is that i slip down the pillow once or twice during the night and need to pull myself back up.

This product was disappointing. As someone who has slept on a wedge for2 years for my reflux (I am 47), I am used to the elevated position. I wanted the Medslant pillow because it has its own carrying case and had a dust mite cover (which really is flimsy and I doesn't cover the whole pillow!) Well, the Medslant is so hard and uncomfortable, after 4 nights of trying, I gave up since I could not sleep deeply. It caused an achy back. When I called the company about returning it, the said it was a personal item and could NOT be exchanged. So, I am out almost $100 for a useless item.

My husband has acid reflux and was taking Nexium but it was not helping him after two years of trying it. He also snored. So I bought him this pillow. It took him about two nights to adjust to it. He also uses a Save your Face pillow with it because he has neck issues. They work well together. He is a side sleeper. He said he can't wait to tell his doctor about his success with this drug free solution and thinks his doctor should suggest this type of pillow to other patients with snoring or acid reflux problems. The pillow travel bag is a plus. It goes where we go.Now for the negative. I bought one for myself. I am a stomach sleeper and I was not able to adjust to it so I no longer use it. Positive for a side or back sleeper and negative for a stomach sleeper. |
