5.0 out of 5 stars We love this cookbook!
This cookbook has been a lifesaver for our family. Our son has autism and is on a gluten/casein-free diet and our daughter is gluten intolerant. There are plenty of GFCF cookbooks out there and we did okay with finding meals that they could eat.

Then, our baby was diagnosed with food allergies to peanuts, tree nuts, and eggs, and that changed everything! I...

2.0 out of 5 stars kid centric, needs a lot of specific ingredients
Frankly, I'm boggled by all the 5 star reviews.

I bought this book because I have allergies to gluten, eggs and milk. I bought it on the strength of the reviews; I've been really disappointed with it. It calls for a lot of branded products like Energy-G egg replacer (in nearly all of the baking recipes), which isn't available to me where I live (in central...

5.0 out of 5 stars We love this cookbook!, August 11, 2008
This review is from: The Super Allergy Girl Cookbook; Gluten-free Casein-free Nut-free. (Paperback)

I tried baking GFCF desserts without eggs and had one disaster after the other. I eventually found a few things that worked, but I still needed more recipes.

I was thrilled to discover this cookbook because it addresses all of our allergies. I've made many recipes from it, and every single one so far has been a hit with the kids. We've enjoyed the main dishes (the General Tso's Chicken is amazing!), the snack mixes are great, and the desserts are delicious. I'd given up on trying to make brownies without wheat or eggs, but there are two brownie recipes in this book, and they're both incredible.

I've recommended this cookbook to many people. The only thing I'd point out is that some of the recipes call for Bragg's Liquid Aminos, which we don't use, or, alternately, soy sauce. Regular soy sauce has wheat in it, so it's important to look for wheat-free Tamari Soy Sauce, if avoiding wheat or gluten.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best rotation diet ideas ever, October 11, 2008
This review is from: The Super Allergy Girl Cookbook; Gluten-free Casein-free Nut-free. (Paperback)
This cookbook is great. My daughter is on a rotation diet and it is impossible to find recipies that are varied and do not contain rice flour. This cookbook has recipies that uses many different flours and the results are amazing. I love how she adds club soda to her bread recipies and how it makes the flour so light and fluffy. The pig in the blanket recipe is a family favorite. If you have a child with intolerances or allergies buy this book.

Frankly, I'm boggled by all the 5 star reviews.

I bought this book because I have allergies to gluten, eggs and milk. I bought it on the strength of the reviews; I've been really disappointed with it. It calls for a lot of branded products like Energy-G egg replacer (in nearly all of the baking recipes), which isn't available to me where I live (in central Europe, or the rest of the world for that matter). Likewise, a lot of the flours she calls for aren't available. So while these recipes might be delicious, I'm unable to make them. Keep in mind you need access to a good bio shop, willing to make expensive online purchases, or buy a grain mill; and you need to live in the States. For baking (which is primarily why I bought the book) I've had better luck making egg and dairy substitutes from a normal gluten-free cook book. And if I can't get gluten free lasagna noodles, how can I make gluten free lasagna? And couldn't I have figured that out how to use gluten free noodles on my own, I mean do I really need a recipe for that?? I was looking for a cookbook with innovative recipe ideas, not a cookbook that says, "go buy this special product and make the foods you've always made." Or, "hey, why not make mashed potatoes without milk, or hash browns, those are naturally gluten free! To make gluten free stuffing, use gluten free bread and a normal recipe!" I can figure all that out for myself.

2nd issue: it's a kid centric book. It has snacks for kids, desserts for kids, and the main courses are generally simple and designed to appeal to unsophisticated taste buds. This isn't gourmet food folks.

For anyone who is a reasonably experienced cook and whose tastes go beyond mac and cheese, there are better books out there. For those who want to feed their gluten-free casein free kids and have no clue, this one's for you.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best allergy cookbook available, January 4, 2009
This review is from: The Super Allergy Girl Cookbook; Gluten-free Casein-free Nut-free. (Paperback)
My husband is celiac with additional allergies to casein, soy, and eggs and should probably be avoiding of a lot of other things due to the fact we are not getting completely well...we're still trying to figure out what's going on with him and why. I've tried every cookbook under the sun that addresses these issues, but he's not a child with autism, so we have a little more grown up tastes. Being free of all the allergens is new to us, so we like to keep it simple and realistic, unlike what some other cookbooks require to be allergen free. We were about to give up until I forced this cookbook on him in the form of a Christmas present (the "girl" in the title was a little off-putting to him- men...go figure). He is ecstatic that he can eat a quality meal again and vary his options when doing so! This is the most complete information guide to allergies plus recipe book we believe is out there. I will second that the General Tso's is so good it rivals that of the commercial chains that have gluten free offerings (even without the wine and soy sauce). Thank you so much "Super Allergy Girl!"

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Recipes and Lots of Information, April 4, 2008
This review is from: The Super Allergy Girl Cookbook; Gluten-free Casein-free Nut-free. (Paperback)
This cookbook was written by my wife, who not only has food allergies herself, but is raising three children with multiple food allergies. Over the course of several years of dealing with these food allergies, she compiled a wealth of information about food allergies, special diets, special ingredients and many useful tips and tricks. There are over 100 pages of information as well as over 225 recipes that are all gluten-free, dairy-free, egg-free and nut-free. Most are also soy-free and yeast-free. All are kid-tested! You can find out more by googling "super allergy cookbook"

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Cookbook, May 1, 2008
This review is from: The Super Allergy Girl Cookbook; Gluten-free Casein-free Nut-free. (Paperback)
My son has autism and has been on a gluten/casein free diet for over 5 years. His tactile problems are getting better and now it's time for me to cook him new foods (finally!). So, I got The Super Allergy Girl Cookbook and it's great. My son is also allergic to all nuts, with a deadly allergy to peanuts.

This book would make a great gift to a friend or relative that has a special needs child on the gluten/casein free diet!

2.0 out of 5 stars Would not recommend for those with Corn Allergies, February 20, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The Super Allergy Girl Cookbook; Gluten-free Casein-free Nut-free. (Paperback)
I felt a little disillusioned with the title. I was hoping "super allergy girl" would have more grain free and corn free recipes. As a gluten free mom with multiple food allergies and an intolerance to many "g-free grains", this book was not a good match for our family.

5.0 out of 5 stars Indispensible, December 8, 2008
This review is from: The Super Allergy Girl Cookbook; Gluten-free Casein-free Nut-free. (Paperback)
I serendipitously found this cookbook while searching for ways to help our son on a gluten free diet. This cookbook is essential in our kitchen, since our son has multiple food sensitivities - gluten, egg, dairy, soy - which make it so difficult to cook and bake. I am so glad I bought this cookbook - I learned so much so quickly, just reading through it! In addition to the wonderful baking, main dish, dessert, and snack recipes, there are so many helpful tips, resources, and informational sections. We have used so many aspects of this book to better the health of our family and the recipes are great!

This review is from: The Super Allergy Girl Cookbook; Gluten-free Casein-free Nut-free. (Paperback)
I have read about 6 books on Celiac and Allergies to food. And I have found this one to be the best so far. Very detailed- explaining doing a rotation diet. Gives the different food groups in detail. Wonderful book plus recipes included.

5.0 out of 5 stars MUST HAVE BOOK Part One of Book is Worth Every Penny, October 4, 2010
This review is from: The Super Allergy Girl Cookbook; Gluten-free Casein-free Nut-free. (Paperback)
This book is an incredible source for information. The first 129 pgs. are worth every penny spent in obtaining this book. The rotation diet is layed out so easily that even my husband could follow it. I love the section that tells you what foods are in which family. The recipes are wonderful, but the author herself is even more wonderful. She has spent a great deal of time helping me, as my children have many different food allergies, especially to spices. I would recommend this book over any other, it truely is a MUST HAVE in your kitchen!
