4.0 out of 5 stars necessary to understand electronic music, February 24, 2001
This review is from: Alles Ist Gut (Reis) (Audio CD)
This is the 1st part of what can be considered as a trilogy, together with 'Gold und liebe' and 'Für immer'; DAF are necessary to understand the evolution of electronic music throughout the 80's, basically the EBM and dark electronics. In this work we can see glimpses of what the great Front 242 were about to do; the basis for the minimalistic electronics of The Klinik, and the typical screaming-singing we would find later with Nitzer Ebb; not to imply that those great bands are copies of DAF, but I'd say that the bases of these bands' evolution are here; DAF's works do not contain any master song, but 'Sato-sato', the typical 'Der Mussolini' or 'Mein Herz Macht Bum' exemplifies the typical DAF style; DAF remains almost forgotten; DAF remains as one of the best dark electronic bands.

5.0 out of 5 stars Welcome to the German Pleasure-Dome, July 24, 2005
This review is from: Alles Ist Gut (Reis) (Audio CD)
This is high energy industrial-disco pop. It was here that DAF made their name in German public and media. Banned in some clubs because they were allegedly " politically and sexually ambiguous." A fact that will not be lost on the listener if they know a few words in German. While Die Kleinen Und Die Boesen was a noisy and seemed more associated with the Communist left-wing, Alles Ist Gut is more militant and openly flirts with right-wing fascist imagery, especially visible on Der Mussolini which goes through Mussolini himself, Jesus Christ and Adolf Hitler. Fuel enough for outrage even if the lyrics sometimes border on the ridiculous. But that was the whole point. To ridicule the taboos that were around.

The other one that will fuels the sexually ambiguous claims is Der Rauber Und Der Prinz which is again nothing much save for the line " Ich liebe dich meinen Rauber," but having said that since homosexuality is still clearly a taboo subject in some areas today, one can only imagine all too easily what it would've been like 25 years ago. Funnily enough, out of all the tracks that are on the album it clearly sounds the least militant of the lot.

My personal favourite of the whole album though is Als Waers Das Letzte Mal which is such an adrenaline packed floor filler that it's bound to get anybody on the dancefloor. It can be open to a few interpretations, not least if you take Der Rauber....into account so you can possibly imagine it as another gay love song but it is seems to be more of an obsessional love song which is highlighted by the real urgency the song has.

Overall, you can ignore all the stupid politics and any other things that were raised 25 years ago because at the heart of it all, this is just a stunning album musically. And in the end that's all that matters.

I just got this CD (I've had the album since it came out and have the other CDs) - and as I sit here and listen I realize why this was so fast, alarming, expressive and exciting back in the 80s. Besides the obvious sexual and driving tones and sounds, these guys, Gabi & Robert along with Conny Plank producing created this sonic, amazing sheen of techno, disco, even funk. This was WAY AHEAD of it's time. It's refreshing that Conny really kicks it way beyond the layers of aural sound. This recording really is their best; Gold & Liebe is rather hot - but nothing sizzles like this. It is amazing for a romp in the sack or a great whipped up cocktail party. This is a MASTERPIECE. Not many Americans know it so if you are checking out this band for the first time - hey - for this price (great packaging and remastering as well) - I have one thing to say: ADD TO CART!

5.0 out of 5 stars Alles ist DAF, January 6, 2000

After 10 long years, Someone had the sense to release the 3 Virgin DAF albums on CD in the US. They were the forefathers of modern industrial music that have gone unnoticed for way too long. Too bad for US record companies that most of the hardcore fans bought the imports years ago.
