Seeing the world through an alleycat's eyes, August 26, 2011
This review is from: Alleycat (Paperback)
A simple heart-warming tale of an alley-cat from town seeking a new home in the suburbs, Marilee Crow's Alley Cat is a picture book for 4 to 8 years olds providing a nice introduction to more expressive language. Some of the pictures by K.C. Snider have a fine dramatic touch, though I imagine my sons would have preferred the pictures to be tied more strictly to the text. For kids who love listening more than interrupting with questions, this is a neat tale with fun pictures, a determined little cat, and a happy conclusion (though not for the mouse). More obstinately inquisitive readers will turn the pages, following the cat out of town, before learning why he doesn't know what lies beyond the bridge, and why another cat does. The story invites young readers to see the world through different eyes, while reminding them of the value of home and family.
