This set Rocks like a Campervan on a Honeymoon!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Allied 66525 Ratcheting Screwdriver Set with Window Storage Case, 61-Piece (Tools & Home Improvement)
I've had no problems at all with this set. I've used it numerous times since I received it last month, and I couldn't be happier. What's great about it is the pivoting shank (neck?) on the thing that allows you to get into places other screwdrivers can't. I've used pivoting screwdrivers before, but this one actually locks in at a 45-degree angle, and won't slip in high torque situations the way others will. I've used this on my cars where I can attach the sockets to it and turn nuts in places my regular ratchet can't reach. I've seriously reefed on this thing with as much force as I could muster (I'm not a small guy) when tightening the valve adjustment nut for the number three cylinder on my 1967 VW Van (which I love) and the thing held up under my best effort. I'm not saying it's unbreakable, because nothing is. I'm sure I could stick this thing in my vise put all my weight on sideways and it would break, but why would I do that. I paid for this thing! I found the bits and sockets to be pretty good. Sure they'll wear out a little faster than a professional quality socket set, and if you're a pro mechanic who goes at it 8 hours a day 5 days a week you probably won't even be looking at this set. I use it for a couple hours every weekend on my old air-cooled car collection (these VWs need a lot of attention, but they're worth it)and it's held up just fine under my abuse. This quickly went from being an impulse buy addition to my already extensive toolset, to being the most regularly used tool in the box. Unlike my other ratchet sets, this one has a case with a labeled spot for every bit and socket, so they don't all end up floating around my toolbox. Dig it!

The ratchet broke with my wife using it to break loose a torx screw. Not a quality ratchet in the kit.

This is a real piece of crap. I think it was 20 bucks when I ordered it.
Well after a few jobs it decided to finally give out. The ball that keeps the bits secured to the screwdriver came out so I can no longer use any bits and hope that they stay put. Also, just as a flaw of design... the lock to keep the head in the various swiveled angles comes loose with about 2 turns of the screwdriver. It becomes very annoying to have to re-tighten it over and over again while tightening one screw. Do yourself a favor, don't look for bargains on tools. At the least don't look for bargain tools that have too many moving parts.

I've had this exact set for about 2 years now and it comes in so handy. I've used the screwdriver several times with no trouble. It has all the bits you could ever use. Unlike some other sets, it's very easy to put the parts back in the spot they belong. Yet the case is compact and stores easily. I'm going to buy another.

I had a similar problem as one of the other reviewers. Within a couple months of mild use, the ball bearing that holds the bit in place fell out. Losing that ball bearing essentially makes the tool useless because the bits fall out so easily that I can't use the tool in any angle other than by holding the tool completely upright. It's just not practical. Stay away, and find a tool with better quality.

This is a great product- I gave it to my fiance as a gift and his only complaint is that the driver heads are not magnetic. Other than that it is easy to use and works well for a variety of projects.

It was broken in the box. The screwdriver only operates in one direction.
Which is fine, unless you want to use it!<sic> My second bad experience with Allied.... Do me wrong once shame on you, Do me wrong twice shame on me....WONT BE A THIRD TIME .... |
