A cherished wedding gift, October 17, 2004
This review is from: Allied Cake Stand with Cover (Kitchen)
I received this gift for my wedding (it was on my registry). I added it to my registry after giving one to a friend off of her registry. I liked it so much that I wanted one, as well! This cake stand is top quality. The glass is heavy duty, the cake stand is large. There is nothing cheap about this cake stand. If you're considering a purchase as a wedding gift, but you're concerned about the size or the quality, rest assured that your gift will be considered right up there with all of the quality gifts that are received, and at a fraction of the price! I received many expensive gifts, but every new bride deserves a lovely cake stand, and this one truly (prepare yourselves...oh, dare I?) *cough* takes the cake?? *groan*
I am editing this review to add a couple of things on 11/27/06 - I have purchased 2 more of these for newlyweds, and each time they believe these to be far more expensive than they are. I now have learned to buy them at Target for a paltry $9.99.
EXCITING NOTE! They can be flipped to create a punchbowl! Dual duty! You flip the stand so that the flat part is resting on the table, then you place the knob into the hollow stem. Voila! Punchbowl.
Also, having just read the review above mine, I would like to add that I received my cake stand July 2004. Here we are in Nov. 2006 (several pies, cakes and cookies later), and my cake stand is still chipless, and going strong! I stand by my testament to it's heavy-duty quality, and I always wash it in the dishwasher. No, let me rephrase...yes ladies, my HUSBAND washes it...in the dishwasher. Knowing that most men are not as careful with the dishes as most women, and specifically that my husband is not, I can guarantee you, it has suffered many a bang and bump, and it's just fine more than two and a half years later.
EDIT: Almost 4 years out...still chipless and in perfect condition. Still loving it. Right now, it's chocked full of granola bars.
EDIT: Nearly 7 years now and we still love it! It's filled with our favorite snacks, because I don't really like cake, but when I do need to make a cake or serve any dessert, that's where it goes!

Huge but heavy, September 29, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Allied Cake Stand with Cover (Kitchen)
This handsome, simple stand is (just) big enough to hold a three-layer nine-inch cake with a lot of frosting and coconut on it. I haven't tried it as a punch-bowl yet, but I appreciate the ingeniousness of the design. It would be a bargain at twice the price.
I give it four stars instead of five because the cover really is amazingly heavy--so heavy that I find it a bit difficult to hold. And carrying the whole stand on the subway with a three-layer cake on it, trying to keep it level? Phew, what a workout! In fairness, it's clearly not meant to be used to transport cakes. It's built to anchor your cake or punch-type beverage to the earth, a task it accomplishes very well.

Excellent Quality!, March 22, 2002

I was skeptical of this item due to the low pricing -- was I ever wrong! When I received the cake plate I was VERY impressed with the "weightiness" and quality. This is would be an excellent gift. I would absolutely purchase this item again.
