Darren, Mr. Crepsley, and Harkat Mulds have returned to the city they first visited while hunting the mad vampaneze Murlough in TUNNELS OF BLOOD. Mystery, mayhem and betrayal form the latest high-speed chapter in Darren Shan's vampire saga. Darren Shan isn't known for sparing the gory details, so for fans of a good thrill, this book is for you. Not recommended reading before bedtime!

Darren Shan writes another great book in the series of wonderfully interesting Cirque Du Freak books. Allies of the Night satisfies fans of the series, yet once again leaves the reader wanting more, more, more.

Shan presents his young protagonist with another twist. Darren and Mr. Crepsley go back to Mr. Crepsley's hometown, and Darren has to go to school. There are lots of fishy circumstances that require the vampaneze hunter to go to school, and he runs into too many familiar faces, but that is all part of the genius of Darren Shan.

For those who claim the author is without skill, I say Charna's guts! You just don't get it. This series continues to be all readers can think about until. . .

the next installment--Killers of the Dawn

I read all 12 books in this series and actually ordered the last 4 from England because I couldn't wait to see what would happen next.

Shan's unique perspective on vampires makes this series fun for those who like vampire stories and those who do not. Shan is truly talented.

My 12 year old son is not an one who reads for the general pleasure of reading. However, he loves this series! He discovered the series when there were only 4 books. Since then we have waited eagerly for each new book. I have ordered each from Amazon so it can be delivered as soon as it is available. I hope the author keeps writing!!

This wasn't one of the stronger books in the series but was still better than some of the previous ones of late. The reason I didn't like this one so much is because they Darren and the crew making stupid choices which is not one a vampire prince who haved made after everyting he has been through nor someone even of human age would do, so I think that lowered the book alot and that someone as smart as Darren didn't relieze that Steve couldn't shoot to save his life was a give away.

Once again the Cirque Du Freak series has left me somewhat disappointed. As I began reading the series I thought that the storyline was interesting and even enjoyable to read, but now that I am to the eighth book in the series I feel that the storyline has become drawn out and extremely predictable. That said some aspects of the story I enjoyed were the characters brought back from earier books in the series and the occasional creepy moment delivered by Shan. Overall I feel that the story wasnt awful and I would recommend it to those who liked the previous installments of the saga.

This book is awesome just like all the others in the sega, I'm not much of a reader and i just cant get enough of these book.

About the Book:

One opportunity has passed for Darren, Crepsley, and Vancha to be rid of the Vampaneze Lord. After this, Vancha has returned to Vampire Mountain to relay the news while Darren and Mr. Crepsley return to Crepsley's birth town. The murders have returned once more, and both Crepsley and Darren are determined to stop it, but someone seems to know about them and their prior encounter with the mad vampaneze, Murlough, and this mysterious stranger is also forcing Darren to attend school, where he runs into his old girlfriend, Debbie. Meanwhile, a man with hooks for hands is running around, along with another old friend: Steve Leonard!

Review:

The series and trilogy continue with another interesting tale. Although this trilogy seems to be a bit drawn out, I did not find it overly so. I was quite interested in who the hook man was (and when I found out, I was amazed). Yes, you could probably easily figure it out who it was of you put your mind to it, but if you're mainly along for the ride, like me, you will be astounded. Now, while Hooky's reveal was a surprise for me, Steve's path was not. Maybe it is because I have seen the movie (though that is very loosely based), but I still believe that it would be fairly obvious, which kind of lessened the suspense for me.

Now, even though I saw where Steve's character was heading, Shan was still able to keep a good amount of suspense and action throughout the book. Actually, the only thing I really disliked was Debbie. It seemed as if the only reason she was placed in this book (so far. I hope she will very useful later in the series) was to be a victim. She also seemed to believe in vampires way too easily, and then she forces herself upon Darren and company, where she ends up being more of a liability than a help, which anyone ought to have seen coming. Honestly, I think I would have liked her more if she had stayed out of the tunnels. Even with these annoyances though, Shan still manages to pen an interesting tale that I cannot wait to finish.

This is a very good book its filled with exciting twists and turns and shocking ending! I have read every book in the series and each was better than the next.

this is an awesome i was at my seat waiting to see what happend next. i read book 5-8 this week so my dad wont buy me killers of the dawn the next book (#9) on my kindle. te he 100% for this book!!!

Allies of the Night, by Darren Shan, is compelling, exciting, and full of twists about the beasts of the Night. Darren Shan (a young vampire prince), Mr.Crepsley (Darren's mentor) and Harkat, (Darren's unnatural friend) search the world to find the "Vampaneeze Lord" whom the vampires must kill. if they fail to kill him within four encounters, the vampires will be wiped out. First, Darren is unexpectedly sent to school where his child hood girlfriend, Debbie, teaches. Second, when Darren is under attack, his long lost childhood best friend, Steve, appears out of nowhere and fends off Darren's attacker. Debbie and Steve join the hunt for the Vampaneeze Lord while no one except Steve knows the biggest shock-- the Vampaneeze Lord is closer to all of them than they think!

I thought the book was excellent--perhaps not one of Darren Shan's best-- but still a good read. I enjoyed the book. In fact, I read Allies of the Night in a day, which is fast for me. Ten to sixteen year olds will probably enjoy Allies of the Night because it is the blood-sucking- creatures-of-the-night genre, which teens usually like. I would recommend Allies of the Night to my friends because of the compelling plot and twists.
