About the Author

Richard Paul Hinkle wrote the California, Oregon and Washington chapters for the "Larousse Encyclopedia of Wine". Hinkle won the Wine Literary Award for the pair of "Beyond the Grapes" books--one on Napa Valley, one on Sonoma County--he wrote with Dan Berger. Mr. Hinkle, who co-founded the "Wine Spectator" in 1976, has sold nearly 900 feature articles to magazines worldwide.

An interesting mix of family antedotes and winemaking information. Alligator Dreams is a must-read for all wine lovers. The Winemaking Timetable and Vineyard Timeline are outstanding. Kate May's photos combined with Richard Paul Hinkle's prose create a lasting impression of Anderson Valley, Mendocino Ridge and Greenwood Ridge Vineyards.
