Wanted a back-up audible alarm for my Jaguar XKR - this device is self-powered, needs NO wiring, and is innocuous (wife thought it was a 'tracer'!). Used light energy to power an audio oscillator and amplifier, top generate a "Beep!" Beep!" "Beep!" sound as long as the backup light is on. Mount with double-face tape over the revwerse lamp lend, on the outside - not app[arentluy affected by car wash, curved mountuing surface, or (so far) bright sunlight. A cheap and easy solution to my defined problem.

At first it works while you back up. But there are issues:

1. If the Sun is shining behind your car's back, the back-up light will reflect the light into the alarm and it will beep forever.

2. It runs on battery so it runs out of juice quickly.

I would go with a special light bulb which has an alarm built-in. Amazon has one but I don't know if it fits my car or not.

The alarm is a virtually useless trinket. Reflection from the sun inside the backup light consistently sets off the alarm most of the day except from about 10am to 2pm. Purchase is a complete waste of money. The alarm is a worthless dollar shop trinket! "Buyer beware!!""

I looked all over town for another one of these. Mine finally went out after 2 years. It stayed on through car washes, up until the battery died. I only found it on Amazon, and the S&H was more than the product, but I had to get another one. I didn't want to have to change the blub in the car backup light like the newer versions of this are, because I am a senior woman who would have to pay someone to do it, and the decibel sound is too loud. So this is the best thing for me.

I have a Toyota Prius which is virtually silent when in reverse. I wanted something cheap and easy to install. I went to the dealer and they sell this exact same item for $15 a piece. I bought it here on Amazon. I installed the simple device with no problem and it works great. Now at the supermarket, people stop when they hear the beeping. The only downside is what others have mentioned that you cannot park your car with the rear end facing the sun. However the tradeoff on safety is well worth it!

now i am stuck with it, not working and out my 10.00
auto alley...don't do any buying from...they won't return a email, as to what to do with broken not working item.

At my job I drive around all day delivering orders. When backing up, I have no rear-view sight, and people walk behind my vehicle without hesitation all the time. Now with the Back-Up Alarm people know I'm backing up and that has made my job a little easier. It was fast and easy to install, not the loudest thing I could have got, but what do you want for 5 bucks. All in all, great product for the money I spent, and now each of my coworkers want me to get one for them too. 4 out of 5!

I purchased 3 of these units. It would have gotten 5 stars but one unit was defective when we received it. However, my husband and I have been using ours for one month and they work well. Even in extreme heat and continuous direct sunlight on our vehicles here in 100 plus degree Texas summer weather, we have had no issues with the function of the alarm. It is loud enough for such a tiny device and people take notice when you put your car in reverse. I think this is a great value for the price. You get what you pay for and more. I am buying another for my father's car.

Works great when backing up, but it is also triggered by the sun when parked or driving with the sun from the rear.

I have a Prius with a back up buzzer...but you hear it inside the car not outside. Not very bright wouldn't you say? Enter the Back-up Warning Alarm. Now when people are behind me when I back up the alarm scares the wizz out of them but they do get out of the way.
