5.0 out of 5 stars 'Allo,'Allo Series two -the laughs continue!!
Series two takes up where 1 ended, still the silliest, funniest show on war ever!! One feels right at home at CAFE RENE with the entire gang.. series two introduces the British officer Crabtree in disquise as a French policeman...One of my favorites , as he conducts his espionage in "Fractured French" . Let's hope the ENTIRE series comes out on DVD.

3.0 out of 5 stars DVD ok but shipping slow!
It use to be that when I would order from Amazon I would have my item in three days. Now it takes at least a week to even make the item ready for shipment. Very unsatisfied with their shipping process!!!

Finally, the long-awaited comedy series is here... volume after volume. The series is a great pleasure to watch, with lots of laughter, "kinky humor", lots of slap-stick lines and physical comedy. Super quality television!!! a must-own DVD collection.

This is the most brilliantly-written comedy series ever. From the very first episode to the last, all the characters are consistent and hilarious. The plots are clever and each builds on previous episodes. Not a single word is wasted; each is carefully chosen to add something to the story.

I won't give away the story lines, so I'll just tell you it is set in France during WWII. The main character is Rene, played by Gordon Kaye, who owns a cafe, and occupies his days trying to balance getting along with the Germans, the French Resistence, the Communist Resistence, his wife, who thinks she can sing, his mother-in-law, British airmen, various onion-sellers, the Gestapo, and the two lovely waitresses with whom he is having affairs.

In some ways it's like the British series, "Are You Being Served." If you have ever enjoyed a single episode, you'll want to see all of them. You'll want to watch them again and again, and share them with friends.

5.0 out of 5 stars 'Allo ' Allo Series one and two, January 13, 2007
This review is from: 'Allo 'Allo - The Complete Series Two (DVD)
I'm always on edge when I order a new series but this turned out to be a winner and I can hardly wait to order the rest in the series. My husband and I are both avid fans of British work, especially British humor. This silly series captivated both of us. Hilarious in the least.

The Policeman Steals the series! If you saw season one then you would have been chomping at the bit to get season 2. My word, is this good comdey or what? If you dont understand Irony then somewhere along the line when it hits you that the Policeman is using some naughty english behind the mask of speaking french and that the "french" can hardly understand him then when you are finished rubbing the tears of laughter from your eyes..you will see that ALLO ALLO is simply good parody, sarcasm, wit, saucinessand even down right corniness at times in a successful mission to get you laughing!
The puns, situation comedy and plot thickens better than onion soup in this sweet follow up to season one...I need to order the other 3 as my friends and I have been having fantastic movie weekends watching ALLO ALLO...
Join my friends and me and laugh at the British, the French and the Germans without causing an international incident...get this series now!!

5.0 out of 5 stars 'Allo, 'Allo, July 17, 2006

Wonderful and highly entertaining madcap comedy, set in occupied France during WWII, with twists and turns that boggle the mind, and keep the entire family in splits... we have watched the show OVER and OVER and OVER again and laughed till we cried and almost died. Unfortunately only series 1-4 are currently available for American consumers. Can hardly wait for the remaining series 5-9. Very well done. Extremely clever situations that lead to more complex and hilarious scenarios all of which seem to have been conceived by a brilliant mind. Excellent value for the money. The all-British cast with their French and German accents are brilliant. The German Army and Gestapo portrayals are nothing short of spectacular.

The second season of the series expands on the first by introducing one of the funniest characters of the series - the British spy with a French gendarme's alter ego - Crabtree.

The second season continues to make fun of the Germans, French, and British. Watching 30 minutes of this show is an absolute treat. (It takes you out from a dark mood in 20 minutes or less.)

The humor is distinctly British, absurd yet campy, situational yet cerebral. It is not a mish-mash, it is a wonderfully exciting mixture of different strands of humor. This makes this series a one-stop shop for anyone who needs to satisfy divergent preferences for good comedy for the members of a household. Also, if you have preference only for one type of comedy, but do not know what to buy, this is the perfect series to buy.

Another nice feature of the series is that all episodes tie into the previous episodes. Moreover there is a short review given by Rene, the main protagonist, at the beginning of each show. You do not have to own the first season to understand what happens in the following seasons.

Set during World War II, 'Allo 'Allo tells the story of Ren? Artois, a French caf? owner in the village of Nouvion. The village has been occupied by the Germans, who have stolen all of its valuable artifacts. These include the first cuckoo clock ever made and a painting of The Fallen Madonna (known to those who have seen it as The Fallen Madonna with the Big Boobies) by Van Klomp. The commandant of the town has decided to keep them for himself after the war and gets Ren? to hide the painting in his caf?. The Gestapo also want the painting and send Herr Otto Flick to find it.

At the same time the caf? is being used as a safe house for two brave but clueless downed British airmen. Ren? is forced to work with the Resistance, who would otherwise shoot him for serving Germans in his caf?. The far-fetched plans of the Resistance to get the airmen back to England, which always fail, are one of the main running gags of the series.

Ren? is also trying to keep his affairs with his two waitresses secret from his wife; in addition, the Communist women-only Resistance members are also plotting against Ren? for serving Germans and working with the Gaullist Resistance. The only reason that they do not shoot Ren? is that their leader is in love with him, a fact he has to hide from both his wife and his waitresses. Furthermore, the seemingly gay German Lieutenant Gruber is also continually flirting with Ren?.

In the meantime, Ren?'s wife is getting proposals from Monsieur Alphonse, the village undertaker, who is torn between his love for her and his admiration for Ren? as a true hero of France.

The companion books are decent.

I have pretty much seen the entire series, even those seasons that are not on DVD yet.

I must say that I am just in the middle of viewing the second series, and the memories of my youth watching these on PBS are flooding back. This show is so well written with quick humor and innuendo that one can not help but laugh. I pray that they remaining seasons will be brought to this market.

"Allo "Allo the British comedy was on TV here in the United States for several seasons. If you loved it then, you'll love owning the complete series. It's as funny now as it was then, maybe funnier.
