Allsop Cool Channel Platform for Laptops (29591)

I've had my ALLSOP Cool Channel Notebook Platform for 5 months and am very pleased. It can be used 3 ways.
1) Where the laptop tilts forward or
2) tilts back
3) plus, you can tuck your laptop into it for convenient transporting which also affords some protection to the laptop - a tight but springy band (like a bungy cord) is attached to hold the laptop firmly inside but could also be used for holding the electrical cord or a spiral notebook underneath while in use.

While my laptop is running, it no longer becomes hot - this product which feels rigid and is covered in mesh-y cloth allows my laptop to vent so that the bottom no longer gets hot and even the air coming out feels much cooler. (My 2006 Toshiba laptop vents to the side and measures 10-1/2" by 14" - it overhangs by just 1/2" on each side and 1" at back which is no problem.)

Before using this product I had concerns that my laptop was becoming overheated and it was uncomfortable to hold on my lap for very long because it felt so hot. I believe this product may extend the life of my laptop - perhaps prevent damage from overheating.

The ALLSOP Cool Channel Notebook Platform weighs practically nothing and is very comfortable on my lap, is well made and appears that it would last for a long time without wearing out. The lip is perfect for holding the laptop in place - there is no sliding.

Pros: light and thin, easily transportable. Cooling function seems to work just fine
Cons: Lip on the bottom to keep the laptop off your lap is uncomfortable-ish. The platform is lightly padded but the weight of the laptop still presses it into your thighs.
Also not big enough to rest entire laptop on. This seems to be for a smaller laptop than the one I have.

Fits my 13"macbook Pro perfectly with no room to spare which is what I wanted. I love that I can fit it in fairly small bags with the notebook nested inside. My macbook stays practically ice cold too, GREAT! The not so great part is when I had my laptop open and was using it and lifted up the front edge and the laptop almost slid off the back onto the floor! Yikes! When it is open the weight of the open screen means you only have to tip it slightly for the whole thing to slide FAST off the back! A tiny lip or if the fabric had some skid proof quality to it would fix this. My other platform is hard plastic so the macbook nonskid feet keep it from moving a millimeter so it has taken some getting used to that my computer slides around like a greased pig! It also occasionally slides over the front lip but that is not a big deal. I would buy this again but glad I learned about the slipperyness without losing a laptop!

I originally bought this for my gf as I had the .i.lap stand. When it came in I tried it out and I liked that it was one piece. Gave my gf the other one and kept this less expensive one for myself!

There is a lip in the front your laptop is held in place but none on the sides, which is ok by me but "could" cause your laptop to slide if you are willy nilly with it. It has grooves in it so the heat can transfer up and out the back.

Pros:
-one piece construction
-can fold laptop and carry in S curve
-can put papers in band on bottom of stand (you have to see)
-no heat on lap
-solid material and fabric wont scratch
-fits all kinds of laptops (I have a macbook 13")

Cons
-sometimes slides left to right (not that big of a deal)
-No wrist pad
-purchased the extremely expensive .i. lap before I bought this one!!!!
-fabric doesn't dissipate heat as well as metal

To date I have purchased approximately eight or ten of these, three for myself and the balance as gifts to friends who own a laptop. Everyone I have given one to loves them also, and have bought for their friends. They hold the laptop at just the right angle to be comfortable to work with. I love laptops, but hate them laying flat. There are several laptop platforms on the market, most metal, and all more expensive...but this one by Allsop is perfect. You need to shop no more. An Allsop platform and a cordless mouse, and you're in business with your laptop.

This laptop platform is great. It keeps air moving under the laptop and it's comfortable to use when on my lap. Good price on Amazon.

I love this stand for my macbook pro. It positions the laptop perfectly on my desk for use with two external monitors. I've had several stands made of only plastic, and I didn't care for them ... I couldn't trust them to hold my laptop when positioned at an angle.

The cloth covering and lower lip on this stand ensure my laptop stays put.

Michael W. Perry's previous reviewed covered all the features very well. I'd recommend reading his review if you'd like more information (His book sounds interesing, too!)

I have 2 notebook holders, this one and the belkin cushtop. I use the cool channel on a podium or desktop, sometimes sitting on the couch next to me. It's very stable and also easy to travel with. I've been using it for 2 months and I have no complaints, I'd by another in a heartbeat.
In case in matters I have a Sony Vaio 15.4", it hangs over almost 1/2" on both sides of the platform but that doesn't cause any issues with stability. My Vaio tends to get very warm when sitting straight on your lap, table etc., but this platform keeps it cool.

I use a laptop at work and after a few days of putting it flat on the desk, I realized I had to do something to soothe my aching wrists. The Cool Channel is a good price and has a nice angle to it. I can't say for sure how much cooler it keeps my 13" Mac Book but it seems to work, though I was skeptical about a fabric covered design. I was going to get an all aluminum one but it was about 4 time as expensive and I'm quite happy with this unit. The fact I you tuck your comp underneath for travel is a great added feature too.

An inexpensive way to keep your lap cool. It would be better if the lip was a little taller to keep the laptop from slipping over the top.
