I love this planter, I have 4 plants in mine and they are growing beautifully. I have gorgeous yellow blossoms and am looking foward to a healthy bountiful harvest. Its clear the reviewer from Texas was over watering his plants which is the MAIN cause of root rot and blossom end rot. Perhaps the hot Texas sun seems to warrant the extra water but I agree with the lady from Colorado. I water once a day in the early morning and so far so good. During a very hot day the leaves will wilt some but perk up the following evening.

At any rate this stand is well built and a joy to use. Its very stable unlike some other models Ive seen and mine has produced healthy happy looking plants. I recommend this product whole heartedly!

3.0 out of 5 stars A lot of attention needed, March 20, 2010
This review is from: Allstar Marketing TT101101 Topsy Turvy Tomato Tree
I live in an aprtment with a NW facing balcony, up in North Dakota. I had some concerns about getting enough sunlight for tomatoes, but went ahead and tried it out. What do you know, it worked OK! However... there were a couple of things I had to do to achive success.
I bought "determinate" type tomatoes. This is what the horticulturist at our local University told me to use. I'm not really sure what that means, but he has a PHD and I don't.
I used the "moisture control" potting soil. This helped with water retention. You will still need to fetrilize, due to the fact that there just isn't enough soil to support 3 good sizes tomato plants. I also used a copper soap based anti-disease spreay(Ortho)to fight off blight and rot.
I would water the plants every morning, and when I did I would rotate the tree by 1/3 to expose annother plant to direct sunlight (my porch only gets 4-6 hours of it a day). I would not reccomend this product to anyone who can't afford to really give it the attention it needs. if you go 3-4 days between waterings, the plants have a good chance of dying. Water 1-2 times a day, depending on your direct sunlight level.
Stick to the 3 plant plan, as I said before, there just isn't enough soil. I did not have any issues with the fabric bag as others seemed to have. This might be due to soil/water acidity, I don't know. The sponge plant retainers did get torn up due to small roots growing into them, but I can replace those with a suitable substitue.
I am looking forward to growing again this year! Hope this helped!

After 3 seasons in Colorado I have not had any problems with this planter and the tomatoes grow great. I use sweet 100's and water once a day.

4.0 out of 5 stars Company Should Offer to Sell Bags Only for Unit, January 16, 2010
This review is from: Allstar Marketing TT101101 Topsy Turvy Tomato Tree
Last summer and well in to the Fall, I harvested an abundance of Bananna, Bell and Jalepeno Peppers from my tree as well as a huge Rosemary. Although the stand is still in good condition, the bag fell apart at the end of the season. I hoped to be able to purchase a new bag only but have not found that available. I'd like to plant another tree but I'm unwilling to purchase another whole tree. Too bad.

1.0 out of 5 stars DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY!, June 18, 2009
This review is from: Allstar Marketing TT101101 Topsy Turvy Tomato Tree
HI! I'm a Southeast Texas hardcore tomato grower. Due to a terrible hurricane in Sept. 08 that destroyed our home, we were unable to do our tomato garden this year. I took the opportunity to try the Topsy Turvy Tomato Tree. I ordered four trees.

Oh a hunch, I only planted the three tomato plants when the instructions said I could easily do six. At first, the tree did just as advertised. The plants grew rapidly and like most tomato growers I babied the plants by picking suckers and watering twice a day. When my tomatos began popping up I was so excited. It looked like a large crop was coming.

Unfortunately, when the bulbs were 1/3rd grown, end rot set in. I have never had a problem with end rot, but did all the suggested remedies from my fellow tomato growers. No luck. My peppers as well have end rot and my cucumbers never even let off a blossom.

If you don't water these plants 2 or 3 times a day, your plants will wilt. There is hardly enough room for the 3 roots to grow. And try as you might, you will not avoid end rot with this piece of poo tree. After our monthly tomato meeting - I learned many of my fellow farmers are having the same problems.

These trees are a total waste of money and after all the work I put into them, my heart is broken I wasted to much time, energy and of course, MONEY!

Just Say No!

The only reason it got 1 star is because it was the lowest rating available. I'd like to give it a negative 5!

1.0 out of 5 stars Avoid this product like a plague, August 5, 2010
This review is from: Allstar Marketing TT101101 Topsy Turvy Tomato Tree
After one month plastic dry rotted and fell apart dropping my tomato plants (I purchased 3 of these) onto the ground full of tomatos. The idea is great. Fast growth, fast fruit production but you won't harvest if it lets go after a month. Don't waste your money on this product. Gardner's Supply has a much better version of this with reinforced sides.

2.0 out of 5 stars Cramped, July 23, 2010
This review is from: Allstar Marketing TT101101 Topsy Turvy Tomato Tree
These planters require tons of water. I live in Ohio and keep this in full sun and am constantly watering. I'm certainly glad I have a rain barrel for otherwise my water bill would be atrocious. These things hold lots of soil also. If you skip a day of watering during the summer they wilt. They all seem cramped and competing for space with lots of roots all the way to the top of the soil. They also seem to get blossom end rot which I've never had when planting in the ground. I also am using one for cucumbers which seems to be doing better. The cucs grow long and straight. I would strongly suggest using the old fashioned method of planting veggie plants in the ground.

5.0 out of 5 stars Topsy Turvy Planter Tree, May 23, 2010

This review is from: Allstar Marketing TT101101 Topsy Turvy Tomato Tree
I have ordered the Topsy Turvy Planter Tree with the 3 holes after seeing the ad on TV. I started to read some of the reviews while waiting for my order and honestly didn't think it was going to work because there were so many bad reviews on the product. So I did a little research on the internet on why some people have good results and some don't. Anyway, I used the information from the people that have gotten good results and applied to my experiment. Just want you to know that I have never planted any kind of vegetables or fruits except for the mint herb that was totally out of control in my yard.

I've received my order on May 4 and started to plant my veggies and fruits on May 6. Today is May 22nd, and I'm already seeing a bunch of buds on my tomato, zucchini, cucumber, and it's only been 2 and a half weeks. The plants were only 3" or 4" tall when I planted them. Those things grow like crazy. They have grown ten times bigger in about 2 weeks. I didn't use any fertilizer because the potting mix was supposed to provide plant food for up to 6 months. It's amazing. All my plants look very healthy and huge. Can't wait till I get some veggies and fruits. I'm so excited, and it's so much fun watching them grow. So far, so good.

Since setting up our Topsy Turvy Tomato Tree it has grown by leaps and bounds. Too early for tomatoes but we are very optimisticly looking forward to a 'big crop' if it is anything like the growth so far. It absolutely LOVES water and sun. Stay tuned!!
