19 years old Kamryn lives with her best friend Chachi, a flaming gay queen. Neither of them work a conventional job, they steal clothes and other items which they then sell to pay the rent and buy food. Kamryn expresses that she's tired of "boosting" to make ends meet, but makes no attempt to change her "career."

New Yorker Ricky Wade moved to Los Angeles at age 17 with a get rich by any means necessary attitude and conquer as many cities as possible distributing drugs. With his other side hustle prostitution, also bringing in the dough, Ricky now in his 30's is sitting pretty with a large bank roll. He lives a luxurious life being careful not to draw attention to himself.

Ricky and Kamryn's worlds could not be more different but yet fate plays a hand and these two meet. Kamryn is resistive of her attraction to Ricky considering he's quite a bit older than her, but Ricky is completely drawn in by Kamryn's innocence and he is the fuel in this temperamental relationship.

Over time Ricky slowly exposes Kamryn to his world and she is sucked in by the bling and glamour of it all. She accepts how Ricky makes his money, but what aggravates Kamryn is his extensive time away from her while doing business. Ricky more than makes up for anytime they spend apart with designer wear and exotic getaways.

With her best friend Chachi becoming increasingly jealous of her relationship with Ricky, and Ricky's overwhelming charm, generosity, and hot sex pulling Kamryn in, she feels caught in the middle between her love for Ricky and her loyalty to Chachi. But Kamryn is put in a "ride or die" chick situation where she falls off cloud nine and into a wake up pit! She soon finds out that the "allure" to all things beautiful usually comes with a price to pay...FREEDOM!

Allure: to exert a very powerful and often dangerous attraction on somebody. Antonym: Dissuade.

Erica Kimberly chose to begin the synopsis on the book's back cover with this definition of its title. However, if a picture is worth a thousand words, then I certainly grasped from the front cover and the rest of the synopsis that this young lady "is so addicted to the life," that she may have to "gamble with her own life" in the end. It's a clever twist on words and visual and it had me sold. There's nothing better than a book cover that conveys what the book is really about. That in itself is worth one star!

Allure takes us on a roller coaster ride with Kamryn Mackey, the 19-year old young and naive beauty that goes from boosting designer labels with her best friend and gay roommate, Chachi; to purchasing and flossing them compliments of her new "boyfriend," Ricky Wade, a 32-year old drug kingpin. The relationship between Kamryn and Ricky is shaky at best and is often tested not only by Chachi's concern and interference, but by the mounting scenarios Kamryn finds herself in as she becomes more caught up in Ricky's lifestyle.

My heart went out to Kamryn because she is so trusting and blinded by love, that she forsakes everything for Ricky only to fall prey to the lure of his way of life. In the end, the jaw-dropping finale made me wish Part Two of the trilogy was readily available so that I could see where the story leads.

My issues with Allure may sound major, but once you read the book you will see that they are really minor. One, Erica needs to cut down on the descriptions. I understand she is trying to give us visual, but the minute details sometimes takes away from the natural flow of the dialogue and the storyline.

Good. It was filled with a lot of detail in order to keep the reader on track. You truly got a clear feel of how the character Rick lived and worked. I do feel that there were a few things that could have been cut out of the novel in terms of descriptions and details, but for the most part the information helped to actually take you into the story. The ending was great and it definitely kept me drooling for more.

Great story for it to be from a new young author. I enjoyed the twist and turns that Rick & Kamryn& Chachi took me on. The title says it all for real. Everything thats seems to good to be true usually isn't.Everything that glitters ain't gold & everybody has secrets. In this story secrets just might cost you your life!!!!!!
