Book 2 of the Secrets Trilogy,
By L. Dobbie (Australia) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Alluring Secrets: Secrets Trilogy Book 2 (Kindle Edition)
After seeing his good friend happily married, in a drunken moment, Severus decides to hold a house party at his country house to look for a bride and announces it on the spot, sending out invitations before he sobers up. At the same time his sister invites her old friend Penelope, the only child of Lord Wimburne, to visit her in the country. Penelope has poor eyesight but her relatives won't let her wear glasses so society considers her to be a little bit slow. As a result she hasn't had any interest from eligible men aside from her Aunts son Toby.
Severus has never really noticed Penelope until he sees her in her only forbidden pair of glasses by accident. As the house party gets underway the contrast between the marriage minded women, who are starting to get a bit aggressive in their attempts to achieve a proposal, and the quiet Penelope becomes more noticeable. Then her father remarries a Spanish widow and her marriage prospects improve. This is a quiet sequel to Seductive Secrets with the focus firmly on the two main characters rather than any side plots. The drama arrives rather late in the book and wasn't something I saw coming but overall it was a good book. Don't be put off by the publishers warning or the usual nature of the books they publish, this is a lovely Georgian romance. |
