I'm in a sharing mood today. I'm still editing this full length novel, and continue to tweak the original story I drafted almost five years ago. I'm excited to move forward with it, so why not share a peek?
Travelling today, so here's one of my first blog posts, slightly edited, but still relevant. Enjoy!
As I cheered on my Blackhawks last night, a thought occurred to me – when did they become ‘my Blackhawks’? I’m from Boston, grew up cheering on Ray Bourque and the Bruins, rooted for the Red Sox (my T-ball card lists my favorite player as Jim Rice) and sat through cold days watching the Patriots in Foxborough. When did I switch allegiances? Did I truly?
I have the distinct pleasure of leading an adorable group of ten third graders in Junior Great Books on Fridays this winter. Last week's story was a long, heavy, Russian folk tale that I knew was going to present a challenging discussion. In anticipation of this, I engaged them in some light banter while they opened their lunch boxes and books to the opening page.
"Who knows what next Monday is?" I asked.
They asked if it was a day off from school, if it was s
Today I am pleased to have fellow Candy Hearts author, Veronica Lynch, visiting. She's brought Keenan Rossi, from For Keeps, with her.
Hi, Keenan. Tell us a bit about For Keeps. It is the story of me and Meghan Muldoon, how we met and how, through events beyond my control, she decided to 'keep me'.
What did you think the first time you saw Meg? It was at the beginning of the monthly Crime Stats meeting, where reps from all local law enforcement agencie

A Sneak Peek from Reality Rewind…..
“Beth?” Scott asked tentatively when I answered the phone the morning after I sent him the email. It wasn’t our usual time to talk, but I was prepared, knowing he’d call as soon as he finished reading and absorbed the tell-all statement.
I pulled my robe tight against chill of the November air as I tried to sound as normal as possible. “I’m here. Are you at the office?”
“I haven’t been able to get myself to go in yet. I read it last night an
The Ordeal – Part Two
So, we learned to heat food on the stove, in the oven, crockpot and toaster oven.We made popcorn the ‘old fashioned way.’
We ate fresh food.
We ate out – more than I care to admit.
The bill for the microwave, including the installation I was told would be reimbursed after the m
The Ordeal – Part One
The microwave made a noise. Then a smell.“I’m not touching it,” said my daughter. Her partially popped bag of popcorn sat deflated in the defunct appliance.“Me neither, wait for Dad.”After complaints of her now having nothing for a snack and later me trying to remember how to make rice on the stovetop (the microwaveable pouches rock) my husband came home.“Oh, come on.” He replied when we told him we were afraid to touch the microwave. He removed the stale popcorn bag a

Today I’m thrilled to share an article from my hometown paper.
Petrak: In search of the perfect beach bookBy Lynn PetrakPioneer Press
She dug her toes into the warm sand, as if anchoring herself for some much-needed solitary time along the shore. Her children ensconced several yards away, busily burrowing and building castles topped by sturdy blades of seagrass and the occasional shard of driftwood, she felt herself relax, finally, after what seemed like an endless cycle of wak
Saying Goodbye to Characters
You know that bittersweet moment when you finish reading a book and can’t bear to part with a character you’ve come to love for 300 pages? I’ve tried to make my characters as memorable and hope someday to invoke that emotion in my readers, but I never thought about having that same feeling when writing about a character.
I’m currently p
Well, one at least. While I'm eternally grateful to all my friends and supporters for their Amazon and Goodreads reviews, yesterday I received a 4 start accolade from Long and Short Reviews and am eager to share. What better way to end a blog drought than with a review? It also gets me off the hook with trying to come up something.
Seriously though, this came at a perfect time. I've been a bit stuck with a rewrite for the sequel and this re-lit
A Loaded Question
My husband returned from golfing on a few Sundays ago and asked sheepishly, “Do you want me to read your book?”
I didn’t answer him right away, instead, I asked who he had been playing with that morning. Sure enough, of the foursome, two were husbands of friends of mine. They had asked him about the book, it had just released days before.
My husband has never asked to read anything I’ve written, and to be honest I never really wanted him to while I was i
For years now I've dreamed of today. Not specifically, September 3, 2014, but the day I would become a published author. Yup, I get to say those words now and will probably work it into every conceivable conversation.
Today is my Release Day. I've imagined this day for years, not particularly for Reality Re-Do, but for any book. For the past year, I've had the pleasure of being able to actually imagine a release day for this novella - a short, sweet romance that I
Tomorrow my dream comes true. I will be a published author.
Today, however - I cannot sit still, concentrate, remember anything or speak coherently. Writing would be futile so I will end this post before it becomes a rambling mess.
I hope to have a better handle on my nerves tomorrow, but I doubt it.
The Writing Process Blog Hop!
Happy Friday! I’ve been tagged by Bethany Myers in a blog hop to discuss my writing process, so here goes:
1. What am I working on?
I’m thrilled to announce Reality Re-Do, my romance novella and hopefully the first of a three part series is being published by The Wild Rose Press Rose Press. I just found out this week that it will be available 9/3/14. So aside from promoting, making this blog prettier and making the jum
