Grisha Goryachev is perhaps my favorite guitarist right now. I have heard many classical and flamenco guitarists but his playing of Spanish music sets a new standard both for beauty and for blinding technique. The four Albeniz pieces offer new insights into how these familiar works should be played on the guitar. Granada in particular is stunningly beautiful, and I have been inspired to learn the piece. His version of Asturias is also surprisingly fresh. Grisha's name will undoubtedly be very well-known soon due to his sheer talent and musicality, so do yourself a favor and buy this album, it's a rare treat.

This is one of Grisha's first recordings of both the Spanish master Isaac Albeniz and Sabicas together. He also plays some selections from the Flamenco master player, Paco de Lucia. The recording from VGo Recordings is first rate as one would expect in the digital age. The tones from the guitar are unusually crisp and clear with a minimum of string noise. It displays Grisha's amazing clarity of playing. If anyone has tried to play the relatively easy piece Granada, you will hear how it was meant to be played with absolutely clear voicing. When he plays the Sabicas pieces, it is hard to imagine that someone can play with that degree of precision-watch him on You tube: [...]

especially as he tries out some guitars at The Guitar Salon and you see his finger strokes if you slow down the action!

If you are a Grisha fan, then you will really enjoy this recording as it captures his playing and the Flamenco sound brilliantly!

With virtuosity and sensitivity Grisha Goryachev presents to us a CD full of individuality and artistry. The programming is beautiful as well, tracing the lineage from Albeniz, Sabicas to Paco de Lucia. I've heard him in concert many times and he is easily one of the most deserving artists of our generation.

On his album Alma Flamenca, Grisha Goryachev demonstrates his wonderful virtuosity and feeling for the subject of flamenco guitar. It is a great shame that it does not seem possible to obtain his albums in this country.

I heard him play in NY and bought the CD right away. Go ahead and buy a few, you'll end up giving this as a gift!

I searched amazon and a video site for some good Flamenco and this is just about as good as it gets. This man seems to have a really deep understanding of what he is playing and technicaly his is superb. His emotion seeps through. I gave only four stars as I think the production/editing is a little dry and I wonder if he would be better recorded live.

The guitar seems a toy in Grigory Goryachev's hands, but he treats it and its music delicately and with the utmost respect, while still maintaining that child-like penchant for fun and mischief which flamenco music sometimes requires. Soon after beginning to listen, you'll see that Grisha possesses many elements of a great musician, a rare and wonderfully honed technique, an absolutely natural sensitivity which he employs to interpret his vast and completely unique repertoire, and an adoration for and appreciation for the history of guitar music which he has been playing for so long, and that shines so clearly through this recording.

On this album, he shows us how vital the music of the traditional art form of flamenco has become, and what two of its greatest exponents have composed and how it has evolved in its solo performance entity. There are so few who are capable of playing this timeless music at his level, in fact perhaps no one else who shows us the variety that he does, invoking classical form and raw flamenco values of rhythmic and percussive expression in both styles. Grisha pays hommage to two of a dying breed of virtuoso, introspective guitarists who have created divine solo compositions with inspiration from classical composers such as Albeniz (whose music is also included here), Manuel de Falla, and their flamenco roots. He plays this Spanish music with an energy and self-awareness which easily provokes your attention among the seas of wonderful guitarists out there.

Sit back and revel in the tangible joy that Grisha is having playing with his guitar.

I first heard Grigory Goryachev play on a tape made in the home of a friend in Massachusetts. A small gathering was treated to a phenomenal impromptu concert by this unknown teenager and in hearing his magical fingering, I was convinced there were two artists playing a synchro-duet. Following his development I have long awaited a commercial release of his talent on this CD "Alma=Soul" Flamenca. Grisha is so talented but not yet well-known.

Please play his music to your friends and get a dedicated following of this young man who lives in my native Dorchester, Ma.

A must for anyone who appreciates classical/flamenco guitar.

In some tracks, you can almost sense his Russian roots.
