Review

"Juanita Rose Violini's Almanac of the Infamous, Incredible and the Ignored is 365 days of wonder and fascination. It is amazing what peculiar things happen to people in this ever so strange world of ours. A mind-opening (and bending) delight!" --Whitley Strieber

"Mysterious crystal skulls of unknown origin. Green children with inexplicable pasts. Phantom hitchhikers grabbing rides on the backs of passing motorcycles. Flakes of flesh that fall from the sky. With skill, panache, and a real sleuth's quest for the unknowable detail, in Almanac of the Infamous, the Incredible, and the Ignored, Juanita Violini delivers a world most of us can't even begin to imagine. This is something quite beyond strange occurrences. Rather, Violini brings us a whole year's worth of unexplained mysteries with which to confuse our staid little hearts: a new one, each and every day. Be afraid! This one could change your life." --Linda L. Richards, author of Death Was The Other Woman and editor of January Magazine

"This is really delightful--Charles Fort would have endorsed it enthusiastically!" --Colin Wilson, author of The Outsider

"From the Crystal Skull to Peking Man, this is the only believable history of the world I have ever encountered." --Lemony Snicket

"The Almanac makes a charming and often enlightening read. Enjoy." --Fred Alan Wolf, Ph.D., a.k.a. Dr. Quantum, author of Dr. Quantum's Little Book of Big Ideas

More About the Author

Juanita Rose Violini - Author and Artist

Juanita has always been fascinated by mysteries large and small, unsolved and unexplained. She grew up in the Canadian Rockies and considers the mountains her home. As a child she was an avid bookworm and wanderer. That never changed.

A long-time artist and writer, Juanita has lived throughout Alberta and southern BC. She grew up and went to school in Banff, and her first two children went to school there, one of the first 'students of students' for the teachers.

When Juanita was in her thirties she moved to the West Coast and continued a career begun in the Rocky resort towns providing corporate entertainment. Vancouver was Juanita's home for 14 years, where she got married, had a third child, and ran Masterpiece Mysterys, writing and directing live murder mystery entertainment for corporate galas and home parties. She now offers her best downloadable parties at MysteryFactory.com.

After fifteen successful years in the performing arts, she decided to focus her skills on writing and other artistic interests. Over the years Juanita has published short stories, written and illustrated a Banff coloring book, and collaborated with her husband writing an unpublished Banff History Mystery novel. She won a summer scholarship to the Banff Centre Art School in 1987. Juanita also collaborated on a newspaper column called Cheese and Wildcats along with Banff luminary Jon Whyte, and is still an active member of the Canmore Artists and Artisans Guild.

Juanita has been a full member of the Crime Writers of Canada since 2004, and is a regular contributor to her blog Mystery Trivia - http://mysterytrivia.wordpress.com/ , Incredible Blog, http://incrediblealmanac.blogspot.com/ the Criminal Minds At Work blog, http://criminalmindsatwork.blogspot.com/2009/12/holidays.html and Mysterynet.com. http://www.mysterynet.com/

In 2006 Juanita moved back to the Rockies, and now lives in the Columbia Valley with her family. She is an active participant in local arts organizations, and continues to work with local youth groups. Almanac of The Infamous, The Incredible, and The Ignored is her first published book. Juanita Rose Violini has always lived on the threshold of the unseen world. Occasionally her foot slips and she finds herself immersed in a slightly off-kilter circumstance where mud puppies lurk in the bottom of lakes, bodies mesh with themselves, and one location blends into another distant place with no straight line in between. These experiences are subtle, and Juanita is convinced that most people have them but either don't notice or explain them away. Juanita loves research. the smell of old books is perfume, and libraries are a second home. Many of the 100-odd books that she used in researching Almanac of The Infamous, The Incredible, and The Ignored were hard to find, but she found them; a good number mysteriously made it into her private collection.

A facinating collection - one a day! - of actual historical wierd and unexplained events - a real collection of daily puzzles to bend the brain. A book you will enjoy while having your mind stretched in contemplating the seemingly incredable. I was so intrigued, I immediately ordered four more copies as gifts for friends. Highly recommended!

5.0 out of 5 stars Life imitating art?, September 20, 2011
This review is from: Almanac of the Infamous, the Incredible, and the Ignored (Paperback)
It is said that truth is stranger than fiction. This wonderfully written and well researched book certainly makes this point clear! It is written in short bursts of energy, which emit excitement to match! So much fun to read! The pictures or illustrations are delightful! Violini conveys factual details from strange phenomenon all over the world, and yet still manages to leave the reader with the impression of her interesting, fun, and spiritual personality.

One can believe each individual report or not. However, after weighing all the evidence presented in this book, if it is in fact the first one you have read containing information on strange, unexplainable (by human standards) events your mind must open to the possibility there is so much we do not understand. Most of what we do not understand, we do not need to be afraid of. I am not certain who once said, "Every time we think we know the answers, we find we only have more questions!"

This book is fun to read, and certainly should make one think. A wonderful book, I highly recommend!

5.0 out of 5 stars It's a mysterious world, November 5, 2009
This review is from: Almanac of the Infamous, the Incredible, and the Ignored (Paperback)
I love mystery, coincidence and the unexplained. This book is filled with 365 days of them.
My DH(dear husband) and i were driving up the mountain to cross country ski yesterday at Silver Star,BC and I grabbed the book as i left the house and read aloud to him while he drove. I flipped the book open and October 22 was stories about unusual falling rain. This quickly prompted a discussion on weather.
Everyday is a quick, easy and interesting read. This morning i opened Almanac of the Infamous to June 14, X-Ray vision.
Who knows what story i will read aloud today on our way to ski and what interesting phenomenon we will discuss?Almanac of the Infamous, the Incredible, and the Ignored
