Although first published in 1935, this book is timeless. Beautifully written by an author who has a vast breadth of knowledge, and a knack for communicating to a general audience. Highly recommended. Also, check out the author's other books, particularly "A Natural History of Trees" (two editions, one for eastern/central North America, the other for the Western States).
