From Library Journal
This is the first in a proposed series of annual reviews that will look at a year in terms of its "quotable quotes." Organized into 14 chapters with headings such as people, sports, and entertainment, it covers a variety of popular remarks, from President Bush's famous comment about broccoli to slogans found on bumper stickers and t-shirts. In comparison to Monitor's annual What They Said in . . . : The Yearbook of Spoken Opinion , this title is very casually put together. There is a single index, mainly of speaker's names, while What They Said is indexed by both speaker and subject. Documentation for each quotation is limited to the speaker's name or that of a newspaper or magazine, while What They Said gives as full a citation as possible. The Almanac does, however, include quotations from television programs and movies while What They Said does not. Libraries already owning What They Said may want to purchase a paperback edition of this to supplement it; otherwise collection dollars would be better spent on the earlier title.
