A wonderful tool for using in speech therapy. Promotes rhyming, sequencing, memory and oral language. The children love the Old Lady. She is well made and durable.

I loved singing the song, "There Was an old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly" when I was a kid, so naturally it's something I sing often to my two kids. This toy makes it all so much more fun! The kids love singing the song over and over, and when their friends come over they always want to play with it.

Everything is very well-made, except our bird's wings fell off. Luckily, they were easy to sew back on. That is the only problem we've had with this product, and it gets a lot of use.

I finally broke down and bought my own "Old Lady" after fighting many other teachers and speech therapists for one that we share at school. I'm a preschool teacher and the kids LOVE all the silly Old Lady books. As noted by another reviewer, this doll does not come with any of the books. You will need to purchase those separately. It does come with the pieces for the Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly. For those of you who are using this at a school (or for that matter, even for those of you who are not), I just stumbled upon a great web site makinglearningfun.com that has printables for 5 of these books. Just print them out, laminate them, and watch the kids have fun and learn while feeding the Old Lady items from the story. In fact, it was after finding this website that I felt it would now be worth my money to buy the Old Lady because I will be able to use it multiple times through the year. The only thing I wish this had - some "Old Lady's" have a plastic part to their stomach so the kids can see what is inside. This doll does not have that, but was also about 40 dollars cheaper then the only one I found that did have it.

Bought this for a 2 1/2 year old. Did not come with book or video. Scared my grand-daughter, at first. Really ugly- but I guess it should be- after all she was swallowing bugs and mammals.

Bought this doll along with the book for a grandson that doesn't like to read. He reads the book and stuffs the little critters in the old lady and laughs like crazy. All of the children love this doll including me.

I bought this toy on the recommendation of a friend for my 2-year-old granddaughter. While it is very cute, used together with the song (book), there were 2 immediate problems with it: (1) the arms (in one piece, which circles the body) came off immediately, before we played with it; (2) there is no fly among the animals! There is, however, a little goat, which does not appear in the song. We can sew on the arms and create a fly, but why?? The price has gone down since I bought the product in December, but I still question its value.

This "old lady" rag doll is cute - but isn't made very well. Her hair is made up yarn, that isn't stitched or glued to her head well. I can always take a glue gun to it - but I don't like buying new toys that fall apart easily. (The animals are all in tact however.) Otherwise, she is a fun addition when reading the story to my little one.

Why oh Why doesn't she come with a FLY?? the whole point of the story. This item didn't come with several of the animals from the book. It's also NOT as cute as the picture. I still like the idea of the toy and I'm keeping it but would NEVER buy this item again or recommend it!!!
However Amazon is amazing and sent out a replacement quick with delivery scheduled before Chirstmas.

I bought this toy for my friends little girls. I was skeptical when she recommended it, but she knows what her kids want better than I do. They loved it! To be fair, I'm not sure who enjoyed it more, the kids or me. I'm always thrilled when I see them excited about something I've given them. This was a winner!

I was very happy with this product. It incorporates all the elements of great toy--reading, imagination, hands-on, a catchy song and fun. However, I had two issues. The first is that my poor old lady's yarn hair was not well secured in the back so she appears to have a 1990's rat tail hanging down the back of her calico dress. But most frustrating was that she couldn't swallow her fly because she DIDN'T COME WITH A FLY!! All the other creatures were included, but no fly. It's hard to sing the song without the fly. A five year old with a new toy can't wait for a correction to an order so I had two choices--find a dead one in a window sill or find a fake one. I finally managed to find a plastic one in a bag of bugs at the dollar store. I'd still like the missing piece though.
