I read the "Turbo Protein Diet" book which heavliy marketed and based its diet on the Almased powder. To give the diet a fair chance, I ordered the Almased. While it appears to be of high quality, thickens up the shake well (I only used water to limit the amount of calories and carbs), and tastes acceptable - it does help you drop pounds as promised in the book. HOWEVER, I am big on getting good deals and getting the most for my money. To this aim I also ordered Spirutein strawberry flavored protein powder. After losing 10 pounds on the Almased, I started flavoring my shakes with the Spirutein. Once I ran out of Almased, I continued the diet using only the Spirutein with the same results. Another 10 pounds lost. My non-scientific conclusion? You can get the same results using Spirutein, save over 30% the expense of Almased, get a better tasting shake and Spriutein also comes in banana, chocolate and other flavors. BTW - Spriutein is also non-GMO, all natural and very comparable to Almased.

Great product- no drop in blood sugar levels,

This review is from: Almased Synergy Diet Multi Protein Powder 17.60 Ounces (Health and Beauty)
I think this is a great product for many reasons. It is one of the more natural meal replacement/protein shakes, I haven't experienced a dive in blood sugar levels which usually leads to light-headedness or hypoglycemia, it gives me energy to exercise and live like a human being, not a hungry zombie, and doesn't taste sugary or sweet.
In the end, I think the choice on protein powders and its consequential success depends on what your body has good chemistry with. Almased is composed of yourt, honey and soy protein- ingredients I knew my body does very well with. If you are lactose intolerant, I probably don't think this would be your choice - get it? I also chose this because it is recommended for diabetics and has a low glycemic index. I am not diabetic, but I have a tendency towards hypoglycemia and that in itself poses some challenges because I usually feel very light-headed, dizzy, tired and sickeningly hungry on any diet, which makes it difficult to stay on any diet or exercise, not to mention that it's not a good recipe for success if you are looking for weight loss and long-term maintenance. The other point that drove my decision to try Almased is its claim that it will prevent muscle loss- and they have a scientific explanation for it. There are many protein powders out there that "allude" to this with semantic manipulation or claim to it without any scientific backup. The only thing they have going for them is YOUR assumption that because it is high protein, you will not lose muscle, which is not true. If this was the case, all the body builders would JUST drink ONLY protein shakes, not drink it as a supplement. SO I found Almased's claim to be a pretty bold statement given that it is a meal replacement product, not just a protein shake. And I have to agree, during my first few days on its 3 shakes/day detox fast, I had lots of energy, was able to exercise for 45 minutes (to my surprise), and was able to do it easily- indicative of no muscle loss. If you go to their website, they have online brochures of 5 different weight loss/diet plans for your life, whatever that goal may be. It could be a 2 week weight loss plan, a detox and fasting plan, a bikini emergency weight loss plan, a diabetic figure plan, or regular long-term weight loss plan. I recommend you read all of them because they contain different information, including recipes, which could help you decide which plan is right for you and customize it to suit your goals. I also think one should make the distinction between meal replacement shakes and protein shakes. In regards to the other amazon customer who suggested switching to Spirutein as a cheaper alternative, I want to point out Spirutein is not a meal replacement shake. Spirutein also contains fructose and derives many of its ingredients from fruit, which is probably not adviseable if you are diabetic. Since I have a tendency towards hypoglycemia, I did not want a fruit derived meal since I would crash within an hour. Alamased claims it will keep you full for 4 hours. Personally, it was 3 hours for me. And so I drank the veggie broth/v8 to pull me through (also recommended on the plan for their high mineral content). As for the taste, it is not sugary or sweet, which I like. I am a healthy eater, and I don't like to "drink" sweet, grainy chocolate or strawberry or vanilla or sweet anything, particularly for breakfast. Don't you think that's an oxymoron? On the other hand, I don't want to drink grainy egg-protein either. Ewww. But I like the way this shake tastes. It does taste a bit grainy, but it tastes like...grain. Like oat bran. I mix mine with unsweetened vanilla almond milk (very slight hint of vanilla flavor and high calcium) and a tsp of Udo's oil (since they recommend 1 tsp of oil 3X/day). Also, depending on your height/weight, how many tbsp of powder you use varies. I think if you are over 5'6", you take 8 TBSP, but less if you are under. This information is also on their website and diet plans. This product does not contaim stimulants and is not an appetite suppressant, so I think it is safe to say you will be hungry. But this is the first time on a diet where I was able to experience hunger without feeling weak, tired, and without experiencing migraines or obsessing about food all day. I have lost weight, and it took discipline ( a lot), but it was the most pleasant ride I have had on any diet. I have lost the same amount of weight in the past on a healthy, restrictive eating plan with loads of exercise, and I was a miserable, hungry, exercise junky. I also feel empowered that in the future, I can use this meal replacement to control my weight the way that I choose, depending on how much and when I drink it. I think this powder is a healthy tool for your weight loss health.

I am 47 years old with three kids. I have had years to put weight on and take it off. This is the ONLY product that has worked. This, coupled with the Turbo Diet book (about $6.95), which fine tunes the amount of Almased used, has helped me, my husband, my older son and my daughter to loss a combined amount of weight of over 100 lbs. within weeks. And now that the holidays are over, we will be using Almased again.

My husband and I are going on a cruise in May 2010 and we are both in our early 50's. That middle-aged spread was creeping up on us both and we wanted to drop some weight before the cruise. Although some reviews said you can expect to lose 10 pounds in two weeks, our experience was not like that. We lost 10 pounds each but it took one month...still more than respectable. To be honest, any time you reduce calories and fat in your diet to the degree that you do on this diet, weight will come off. The key, for me, is not feeling like you are hungry, the headaches and jittery feeling I usually get when I get too hungry. The meal replacement shake kept the hunger pains away, we could go about 3.5 hours after having a shake before we felt hungry again. The first week we had shakes for all three meals each day and after the first week, only two meals a day, with a low calorie, low fat NO CARB meal for dinner. Personally, I enjoy the shake made with about 1 cup of low fat milk, about 2 cups of ice, a tablespoon of vanilla, and sometimes I add unsweetened cocoa for variety. As an added bonus, I find having a shake less expensive, more convenient and healthier than going out for fast food every day at lunch time. We are both very happy with the results and are continuing with the diet until our cruise, hoping to lose 5-10 more pounds each.

I needed to get rid of those last 10 lbs. I do aerobic activity and do weight bearing exercise which left me very hungry and once I started eating it was hard to stop! Almased does not taste great but it is the feeling of satisfaction and the natural ingredients that lead me to recommend this product. Within 10 minutes after drinking the shake, I feel completely satisfied physically and emotionally, not even thinking about food or eating anything else. I have consumed protein drinks and none lead to the same feeling of well being that this one does. I have lost those last ten pounds and still have one shake per day. As a side note, I have never felt the need to review any product before. I really feel that this worked so well for me that I wanted to share.

Four weeks into my "lose the weight I gained during my medical residency project" I have lost 10 lbs...only 15 to go! I mix the powder with SilK Soy Milk...and love it. The choices are vanilla, chocolate and almond, a nice variety. The first few days was the biggest adjustment to make, but I drank low sodium V8 juice and veggie broth to satisfy hunger moments. Actually, I did the Almased drink soley for a week before substituting one low cal meal a day and felt satisfied. I am in a very busy medical practice and have had plenty of energy to last all day. Unfortunately, that does not leave me a lot of time to exercise. The cost at Amazon.com was about $25 per can, but being a short person and only needing 6 TBSP per drink, a can gives me about 12 servings. A bargain investment in my health and well-being...not to mention my self-esteem. Skinny jeans....here I come!Almased Synergy Diet Multi-Protein Powder 17.60 Ounces

This is my 8th day on the Almased fasting diet. I have lost a noticable amount of weight. I am not hungry throughout the day and it is easy to continue fasting. I am very happy with the results so far.

I chose this product because I can pronounce all of the ingredients. Makes you feel full and not wanting to eat everything in sight. It really helps reduce how many calories I feel I need to eat...therefore I eat a lot less now. Energy levels are much higher so I actually feel like exercising. The headache about 2 days in they say is because the large amount of toxins that are being dropped into the blood stream for cleansing from the body...or at least that is what their web site says. My head ache only lasted a day. I happy with the results and would say only spend your money on this product (cuz it isn't cheap) if you intend to stick to the diet that comes in the little book with it. There is a lot of information on their website too.

This stuff works great!!! I'm hypoglycemic and can't go without food (or a supplement)for more than 3 hours or so at a time, but this was effective in making me feel full and keeping me full for 3 hours, and it seemed like it helped repress my deire for sweets, but that could be just me. A word to the other hypo- or hyperglycemics out there: this stuff does what it says it will, and will not make you crash. At least it didn't for me, and I'm pretty sensitive. I didn't dare completely replace food with it though; so I 'd have a good balanced breakfast and have Almased for my remaining meals. It kept me full and energized, which was a pleasant surprise.
Combined with exercise, Almased melted off flab and really improved my energy. Definitely getting more!
