This transformation didn't happen in my case. I was very disappointed as I love makeup!
I understand what Almay is referring to. I have previously owned blush which, upon contact with my skin, adapted as if by magic to the specific skin type I have, only the blush which I purchased before actually accomplished what it set out to do much more effectively that this blush does.
I had two problems in particular with this Almay blush, which, incidentally, was definitely a color I would have chosen for myself if I had just been wandering through a store or seen it on Amazon. I like the look of the color. It is very pretty, a cool, light mauve-y pink. When I opened the tube, I was delighted as it looked like a product by Stila which I already own and use frequently.
The first problem was this. No matter how much I applied to my cheeks, using my fingertips as they instruct on the tube and the package, and then removed, in order RE-apply in different amounts, and then tried to put on again in some sort of different manner, in ever more concerted attempts to get a reaction from this blush, in order to give this product a "fighting chance" at a good review, it just had NO EFFECT upon my skin or my cheeks in any way, or my general "look".
How about this idea: purchase as a "first blush" for your daughter or niece.Read more ›
I'm afraid of overdoing it, that's why I don't use blush. But I kind of liked the Almay Smart Shade Blush: because it's in cream, it blends well and doesn't leave streaks; plus, it's so versatile: I can keep a tube in my little necessaire that I keep in my bag because it won't make a mess or break like powder products. In a pinch, you could use a little on your eyelids or lips to sort of "freshen up" your look after a long day, and it will look natural.
It looses a star because it's not natural, but I have to admit it didn't bother my sensitive skin AT ALL, which is always a plus and a nice surprise when trying new makeup!
It might be tricky to find the perfect shade, but it's probably worth the effort.
This is my first experience with a cream blush, and I have to say I don't think I will try one again. I wasn't fond of the messy application, requiring a trip to the bathroom to wash my hands before continuing (I do my make-up at a vanity table in my bedroom, using a lighted make-up mirror), and I thought the cream blush felt a bit sticky on my skin.
That is, until it wore off. My normal cosmetics routine rarely requires I touch up my make-up throughout the day, with the exception of my lipstick. On a hot summer day, I might powder my face a bit, but it is rare I have to touch up my blush until evening. The Almay Smart Shade Blush wore off very quickly, leaving my cheeks without a rosy pink hue within hours. I should add that I broke myself of the habit of rubbing or touching my face years ago when I realized the act bred pimples, so this was simply normal wear sitting at my desk in my office.
I do have to say, however, that when first applied, the subtlety of color is attractive. But an experienced hand can easily achieve that same look with a powder blush that lasts a bit longer in the day.
Overall, I have to say I would not use this blush again. After a week of wear, the tube lies in my make-up drawer without further use and will likely be the victim of a spring cleaning in a year or so. Someone who is partial to cream blushes may like this one better than I did, and I would recommend they try it. For me, it just didn't meet my needs.
As far as I can tell, the magic "shade-sensing" appears to be some kind of heat activation. This does not make for perfect shade-sensing ability. It means that since my body temperature is a little warmer than average naturally, the blush shows up as REALLY pink on my cheeks. Way too pink.
Honestly, this seems like a complete gimmick to me. Yes, it takes the guesswork out of blush--but it does so by taking all the control out, too. I'd rather make a one-time investment of ten minutes at the makeup counter making sure I get the right shade then use this blush and always have the wrong one on.

I love this blush, and I'm sorry it's not in stores anymore. I was glad to find it on Amazon. I have fair skin, and this blush has enough color without being too bright for me. Read morePublished 6 months ago by Laura

This is my favorite blush, but it is no longer available in the dept. stores. I looks natural, not cakey or greasey.Published on January 13, 2014 by wilber
