1.0 out of 5 stars One of the worst releases of 2010, REALLY!
The problem with this collection is there simply aren't any good songs. In a nutshell no material! The "songs" sound like remnant audio tracks that lyrics were forced to fit into. No flow of melody whatsoever. Ditto for the audio backing tracks. In most cases just layered parts which most of the time do not fit together or meld into a decent "groove". There is nothing...

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesomenesssssss!!!, March 4, 2010
This review is from: Almost Alice (Audio CD)
I purchased it on iTunes. I was just going to by the one Avril song cause I liked the sound when I heard it on the commercial but after listening to the 30 second preview for all the songs I decided to get the whole CD.

Initially I loved most of the songs, but now I love them all.

They all have a punk-rock/alternative feel to them what with having Owl City, Avril, All American Rejects and such on the CD.

I think it is totally worth purchasing. As I listen I am starting to want to see the film when at first I didn't. What a difference a soundtrack makes.

Added after seeing the movie sad to say that as much as I love the CD and I still think it is worth it you won't here many of the song in the actual film which was a little upsetting but I still like the CD.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome Tea Party!!, March 3, 2010
By
This review is from: Almost Alice (Audio CD)
This album has a nice eclectic mix of songs and performers. I can't decide which I like the most, Kerli's "Tea Party", All Time Low's "Painting Flowers" or 3Oh13's "Follow Me Down". But then I really like Grace Potter's redo of "White Rabbit" too. Can't wait to see the movie.

5.0 out of 5 stars great album..., August 8, 2010

This review is from: Almost Alice (Audio CD)
My brother gave this album to me as a gift because he knew I had enjoyed Tim Burton's interpretation of Alice. Of course, I took to the album so easily because of the film. There are some songs that are particularly awesome including my top three favorites: Painting Flowers, The Poison, and Always Running Out of Time. As mentioned by other reviewers, the album features a diverse mix of contributors ranging from pop to heavy metal artists so some songs take a little getting used to. What I enjoy the most about the album is that most songs just hint at the association to Alice.

4.0 out of 5 stars Better than expected, April 15, 2010
This review is from: Almost Alice (Audio CD)
After reading both the positive and negative reviews, I decided to take a chance on this album. I didn't have great expectations for it but I liked it better than I thought I would. Since there are other detail and loooooong reviews on here, I'm just going to say that some songs are better than others. My personal favorites include Avril Lavigne's Alice, Shinedown's "Her Name Is Alice", the "White Rabbit" remake, and "The Poison" by All-American Rejects.

What irks me the most about some of the other reviews is that they don't bother to read the product closely. I've read many complaints about the fact that most of the songs weren't in the movie. The product description for this album doesn't say it's the actual soundtrack. It says, "This is a companion piece to Danny Elfman's soundtrack score. Modern rock and alternative artists have long been inspired by the classic Alice in Wonderland tale and the cultural impact of Tim Burton. Almost Alice is the musical expression of those influences." The words that pop out at me the most are "COMPANION PIECE" and "INSPIRED BY". These words suggest just what they say. It's a companion piece to the soundtrack and the music is inspired by Alice's tale.

Perhaps the next person to buy this album will read a little more closely and realize what they are buying.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is amazing...., November 16, 2010
This review is from: Almost Alice (Audio CD)
There are 8/21 songs I personally rated as 5 stars, then the rest is not important. Everything fades when you hear those very special songs, which you can not find on other albums. I absolutely am glad and so happy to own this music.

4.0 out of 5 stars Pretty Awesome Stuff!!!!, April 2, 2010

I looove Owl City, and have for the last 3 years sooo I was pretty stoked when I saw that Technicolor Phase was making it on here! This is an older song, so I'm excited for something other then Fireflies ;] ;] haha though I'll admit that I'm not exactly sure how it fits in with the whole Alice in Wonderland theme...meh!

In general I really enjoyed this album! There seemed to be a good variety of music :] I found it a fun one to listen to while driving when I'm sick of the radio haha

I realllly like Avril Lavigne's song, it's one of those kinds that make you feel better on bad days :]

4.0 out of 5 stars WONDERful album!, March 15, 2010
This review is from: Almost Alice (Audio CD)
I bought this on a total whim after seeing the movie. I've listened to it several times (actually I'm listening to it right now on iTunes!) and I am really enjoying it. The album features a lot of contemporary artists that have each recorded original songs inspired by the tale of "Alice." I like how there is a very diverse mix of songs. You have a bunch of dance songs and a couple more classic rock sounding ones. Then there's the Tokio Hotel/ Avril Lavigne/ Metro Station emo kind of mix. Some of my favorites are Kerli's "Tea Party," Robert Smith's "Very good advice," Owl City's "Techincolor phase," Avril's "Alice," Wolfmother's "Fell down a hole," Grace Potter's "White Rabbit," and Plain White T's "Welcome to Mystery." They are all really cool, fun songs to just jam out to but some are definitely better than others depending on your taste. And I love all the "Alice" references! The artists did a great job using the movie as inspiration. I'm not too fond of Tokio Hotel or Metro Station's renditions and Shinedown's track is the one song I don't even listen to. But I would recommend this. It's fun to listen to it!

PS: Owl City's track is from a previous album of theirs. I was a little disappointed they didn't record an "Alice"-inspired original, but it's still a great track!

5.0 out of 5 stars A well crafted gift!, July 10, 2010

When I saw the clips for Tim Burton's movie, I wasn't impressed. When the sountrack came out, I listened to snippets of the songs and became intrigued, so downloaded it. WOW! The songs are not knock offs made to fit the story, but artists familiar with the work. Robert Smith and Franz Ferdinand's contributions stand out the most to me right now, but as other reviewers have stated, the whole album grows on you, and in a good sort of way. ( Being old, I like the remake of White Rabbit. Owl City is a band I need to explore more. ) I'm more desirious of seeing the movie now, and see how the songs intertwine with the film! Get this! It's great!
