It's not the story, it's the singing that's so beautiful,
This review is from: Almost Angels (DVD)
When I was a young boy I saw this movie when it first came out and fell in love with it immediately. I couldn't begin to tell you how many times I've watched it, but it's probably close to 100. The story is a simple one, but it's the singing that is so beautiful to listen to. To me, this was one of Walt Disney's best films. The scenery is breathtaking, especially the mountains. I've been hoping & praying that the Disney studios would bring this out in DVD format, but so far it's a "no show." So many other films from the fifties and earlier have been reproduced in the DVD format, so why not this movie, that is based upon the Vienna Boys Choir. Everyone who enjoys a young boys treble voice should write to Disney to convince them to bring this movie out in a DVD. That way more people would get to hear the music of the great composers sung by these extremely talented young boys.

Ordinary Boys, Extraordinary Music,
By
This review is from: Almost Angels (DVD)
It is an era when the worst thing a group of pre-teen boys can be caught doing is a pillow fight after hours with the verboten transistor radio playing jazz. The benevolent authority cares for their growing pains as he exacts perfection in execution of some of the world's most glorious choral music ever written. The "almost" qualification to the angelicly pure bell-like voices singing music of the ages is the normal mischieviousness of boys. Celebrates friendship, perseverance, encouragement, loyalty, leadership, kindness. And gives us a chance to enjoy the Vienna Choir Boys.

An Absolutely Beautiful Story,
By
This review is from: Almost Angels (1962) (VHS Tape)
I saw this film for the first time in the 80's. It is one of the best I had ever seen. The story of a young boy who joins the Vienna Boys Choir when his voice is changing, and a lot of the choir's singing voices--it's a beautiful story. I had just bought my first VCR, so I taped it, which was a good thing since I haven't found this film anywhere since. I would highly recommend this to anyone! I would also very much like to see "Almost Angels" come out on DVD very soon!!

Must see,

This review is from: Almost Angels (DVD)
Despite seeing this movie only once when it was released in Australia more than 40 years ago, the impact it made on me remains. It was beautifully shot and imaged, fabulous colours, great acting and plot, memorable characters, and a really good film. Should be up there with Sound of Music and Lassie. I will continue to look for it on DVD and hope Disney take heed that this was one of their special movies that deserves a renaissance.

Almost Perfect,
By
This review is from: Almost Angels (1962) (VHS Tape)
This movie is one of my favorites for any age group. It is everything that is missing from today's movies--whether for adults or children. It has good taste and class and elegance. It has role models for good behavior contrasted with bad behavior--it shows children an ideal to emulate, in terms of how to build character and how to live a good life. It conveys the spirit of joy in participating in the arts, and in accomplishing things that are difficult by means of the virtues of practice and hard work. It conveys the spirit of adventure in traveling the world. It also shows how one can accept and adapt to changes, and how to deal with issues of competition and envy. Also, it has many beautiful classical choral pieces, including Strauss, sung in languages other than English, yet without any of them boring my American five year old twins whatsoever. My children were watching the adventures of boys more than twice their age, but with rapt attention, never losing interest. After seeing it, my daughter drew a picture of the boy Peter with a mountain behind him, without any prompting.
This is a movie that is about the importance of a life filled with beauty and harmony and purpose, and the importance for parents of giving their children the freedom they need to pursue their goals. This film was made while Walt Disney was alive and making some of his best films, such as The Three Lives of Thomasina, Pollyanna, and Mary Poppins.

Where's the DVD!!!!?,
By
This review is from: Almost Angels (DVD)
I agree with all the reviews for Almost Angels! Where's the DVD! I actually emailed Disney to see if they
would release it and they emailed back and said there wasn't any plans to do so. I feel it's a classic, too. It's got to be one of the top Disney dramas and yet you don't see it on TV either. I sometimes will see an old video copie up on EBay and they will go as high as $50.00. Disney did you loose the film footage or something! Your missing the boat with this one!

Favorite movie as a child,
By
This review is from: Almost Angels (DVD)
I saw this movie in a theatre and then later on TV as a child. I have been waiting for Disney to release this wonderful classic on DVD. Where is it? Why are they not releasing this one? I would buy multiple copies for my family members. This is my favorite movie from my childhood and I still remember many details. The
beautiful harmony in song and the insightful character development of the boys will never be tiring to watch. How can Disney be persuaded to put this marvelous movie on DVD? How can they ignore and overlook this wholesome gem of movie entertainment? This movie rates on the same level as "Parent Trap", yet we still are waiting.....and waiting.....

Almost Angels.,

This movie has never left my heart a story that keeps you intouch with the fact that some children are born to sing and love music, I understand to a small point why Disney have not concidered this film based upon the standards of today where everything has to be fast with action, and maybe also they are wondering if the returns will warrant them putting it on dvd. Having cleared that point still it is a great film and I do 100% feel that it should be released on dvd as a double, yes include this wonderful happy loving film with another Walt Disney film. "Walt Disney" you have so many others yet to be released, or maybe include it with one that has already been released on dvd you do it with other Walt Disney films, and the fact that it's a hard to find little Walt Disney Movie you really will do very well indeed. So now Walt Disney no more excuses from you please can you give us one of your Special Edition 2-Disc Sets, and please include SPECIAL FEATURES!!! beleive your followers the returns for this will be what your looking for, and better still your films will be loved and viewed by your fans world wide! who will thank you over and over again, I'am from Australia.

This is a beautiful story with rich music. I have owned the VHS for years and about worn out the copy. I would love to see this in DVD format, because my copy is beginning to fade. I love the music and it is a wholesome story I would like to share with my family.

Every kid should see this beautiful movie on DVD,

This review is from: Almost Angels (DVD)
"Almost Angels", released in 1962, is a Disney movie many baby boomers saw when they were children. Excerpts on Youtube are incredible. Every child should see it and understand how glorious it can be to be part of a team like the Vienna Choir Boys. The movie has everything - music, thoughtful story, issues about adolescent change, and how people grow through loyalty and empathy. Bring it out on DVD and promote it - one of the best movies people need to see.
