This review is from: An Almost Holy Picture - Acting Edition (Paperback)
This is a stunning, one-man play, that is beautifully written. In fact, I regard it as one of the most exquisitely written plays I have ever read. A masterpiece in so many ways. It is about a man, Samuel Gentle, who hears the voice of God as a child and spends his life trying to make sense of God's ways. When he and his wife finally have a child, their daughter is afflicted with a rare medical condition that makes her laughed at by her school mates. Her father tries to protect her and, in the end, becomes the one who ironically makes her feel even worse. But there is redemption, of sorts.
The author's prose is nothing short of magnificent. Well worth the read. |
