This review is from: Almost Home (Audio CD)
He gave us good ol' country funk going back to the early '60s, the Ara label "Scratchy", his most famous charter; this leading toa long-standing studio gig helping *others* have hits, including Aretha Franklin, Wilson Pickett, Little Richard (who recorded track #8, the heartful "One Ray Of Sunshine", back in the mid-'80s when he resumed his recording career; prior to that he hit with TW's "Greenwood, Mississippi"); and many more.
This "swamp guitar" stylist has given us ten songs on this new album from "home", though the "home" he speaks of in the album title and track number one, is of a higher clime. Fans will enjoy the presence of Travis Wammack, Jr., drummer man "Monkee" Wammack, on that opening number. This is a peaceful opus, relaxing from the first perusal of the jacket art, to the finale track, "A Soldier's Christmas". Like the rest of the CD, easy on the mind, yet inspiring at the same time. An additional plus is the keyboard and string contributions of Lavoid Wammack.
