Book Description

***ALMOST HUMAN is an epic saga, in which each book averages 145,000 words in length (the equivalent of 2 - 3 typical novels). This First Trilogy Bundle is approx. 400,500 words in length.

ALMOST HUMAN ~ The First Trilogy
In this paranormal fantasy, chapters alternate between a vampire and a young woman, as they join an ensemble cast to navigate difficulties of addiction and desire; perils of zombies and vampires; and struggles with abuse, morality and... college.

Vol. 1: Fatal Infatuation
Felicity views going away to college as an opportunity to mature into a confident young woman, but her new beginning turns out to be more of an adventure than she bargains for when she finds that her school is plagued by vampires!...Cain is an elder vampire who displays quiet confidence even as he struggles to overcome sins of his past. Surprisingly, he found that in losing his life he gained his faith and a purpose...His mission: find the hostile vampires that inhabit this small college town, and educate them to live in peace with humans. Their leader, Sindy, is a wicked temptress who has set her sights on Felicity's new friend Ben. She will be difficult to control, but after meeting Felicity, Cain's most difficult task lies in controlling himself.

Vol. 2: Lost Reflections
Felicity has helped her friends to escape the venomous vixen Sindy, but cannot divine the motives of Cain, the vampire who captured first her gratitude, and then her heart...She finds the historical account of Cain’s past enthralling and frightening. Now she must determine whether the addictive venom in Cain’s kiss is clouding her judgment, and if his thirst for her blood is a driving force too strong for their love to conquer...It’s difficult to contemplate such questions while under the attack of a vengeful vampire and his zombie slaves. Felicity’s heart has already been lost to Cain; will she lose her life as well?

Vol. 3: Evolving Ecstasy
The relationship between Cain and Felicity has crested to a peak that leaves them unsure whether to step back from each other for safety, or jump into a future united in death...The venom of Cain’s bite could protect Felicity from hostile vampires, but it would give him a measure of psychic control over her as well. Would Felicity only accept becoming a vampire, due to his addictive venom, coupled with the foolishness of a young girl in love?...Perhaps there is a brighter future for her in the human world. Is Cain’s desire for Felicity’s love worth the loss of her life?

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the most memorable series I've read October 3, 2009
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This year I have been reading just about anything paranormal that I can get my hands on. Kenyon, Frost, Harris, C.L Wilson, Ward... pretty much read it all. I stumbled across Melanie Nowak thanks to the Amazon message boards and the reviews from other helpful readers. I gave her Kindle bundle a go because the sample sucked me in, and I was instantly addicted. I can honestly say that it made me look FORWARD to 3 a.m. feedings with my newborn because I couldn't wait to get back into the story. It kept me up worrying and wondering what the characters would do next, and I thought about it long after I read the last page. It had me in knots at times, and smiling like an idiot at other times.

I loved the series because it took the vampire/human girl story line in a completely original direction. The characters were three-dimensional, believable, the dialogue flowed naturally, and no one fell in the clearly defined box of black or white, good or evil. Characters that I liked in the beginning I didn't care for as I got to know them, and the one that I thought was clearly the villain became if not likeable, then at least understandable by the end. For me, a really great book will make you feel what the characters are feeling, and this series has that in spades. Felicity is a young college student, naive, gullible at times but not stupid, courageous, beautiful, likeable, and I was really rooting for her to wind up with the right guy. When I started the first book I had no idea there would be a love triangle, and it actually caught me off guard, but that wound up being one of my favorite aspects of the series. THe fact that the author set us up and we didn't even see it coming.

5.0 out of 5 stars Original story, great offer from a new author March 11, 2010
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
After reading a good slice of what's out there in the paranormal romance genre, I have to say that this story is extremely original and fulfilling. Very realistic, within the fantasy, the relationships and characters are believable and well developed. The writing improved steadily from one book to the next, characters and tie-ins to future plot lines were introduced smoothly in the flow of the story, allowing the reader to sense there is more to look forward to later on in a particular topic. My measure of a good story and characters is that, once finished reading, I miss them, as if they were good friends that I want to see and hear more of. The Almost Human trilogy certainly meets that criteria, it left me wanting more. Can't wait for the next installment.

If you read the 'Twilight' saga and were left wanting something more adult-oriented, if you liked the Sookie Stackhouse/Southern Vampire series by Charlaine Harris, then this series is perfect for you.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just what I've been waiting for!! March 13, 2010
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I could not put this book down!! I must have read it two days straight! I really like the authors style of writing and all of the characters are very well developed and life like. I've read so many PNR books trying to find a book with the story lines of the young adult books but with more adult type relationships. I don't like comparisons but I would have to say this is so much better compared to the Twilight series! You cant really compare Cain and Felicity's relationship to Edward and Bella's though because they are too different. There's plenty of action, love scenes, and imagination! This will defintetly be a re-read. The only drawbacks I have are parts involving Sidney. It made it really hard to believe that Cain and Felity's relationship was worthwhile when Sidney's naked with him half of the time. I was actually hoping someone just staked her at some point in the book. I wouldnt recommend buying these books individually because flow together too well. I have read other reviews that say that Felicity is fickle and I agree, she was in the beginning. Most of these bad reviews are from people not finishing the series! The twist at the end was very unexpected and really overshadowed any flaws the books may have had. I'm loving this story so far (waiting for Born to Blood!) and can't wait for more from this author!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great new series! October 16, 2009
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I downloaded the sample first, and about halfway through knew I would be purchasing it. Each book in this trilogy is really a continuation from the previous book, so it flows together nicely. Each chapter is written from either Felicity or Cain's point of view, which actually worked well and gave insight into each character. It took a few chapters for me to get into it, but as the story progressed, it really grabbed my interest and I couldn't wait to find out what happened next. The second book moved a little slower as it was mostly Cain's past and inner turmoil, but was very important for character development and motivation and the pace picked up at the end. What I really liked was how the characters grew and evolved over time. The characters are not perfect, they make mistakes, they struggle, they learn, that's what makes them so appealing.

While the first two books were really good, my absolute favorite was the third book, which was a great read and very hard to put down. I laughed, I cried, and I must admit, I was surprised at how things turned out. I can't get this series out of my head, I haven't been able to get into another book since the two days since I finished this series and have actually been rereading this last book, it was that good. By the third book, the author really found her voice and I am eagerly awaiting the next installment!

Great book. I really like the relationship between the two main characters. I hope the next set is about them, but I have heard it is not. So I am hoping it is just as good.
