Book Description

January 2001
She Was No Lady... Pistol-packing Pinkerton agent Willow Hastings always got her man--until Brandt Donovan came along and put her career in jeopardy. Now she was supposed to work with the dashing bachelor to catch a killer? Never!

But He Was No Gentleman... Willow's sultry voice, silken skin, and subtle scent of roses made Brandt ache to savor her between the sheets. But to pose as man and wife to solve a murder? Such unthinkable celibacy could drive a bachelor to madness. Or to--shudder!--matrimony...

5.0 out of 5 stars Heidi Betts Shines, January 22, 2001
This review is from: Almost a Lady (Mass Market Paperback)
Willow Hastings is a Pinkerton agent out to find the murderer of a fellow employee. In order to get the case she makes a deal with her boss, and finds herself playing wife to the irritating Brandt Donovan. When Brandt's not aggravating her, he's driving her to distraction in a totally carnal way. These two headstrong people have a murder to find, but as they're searching they find something else. Could it be love?

Heidi Betts combines a heart-thumping historical romance with a heart-pounding mystery in this delightful story!

2.0 out of 5 stars Wasn't much of a story, February 26, 2005
This review is from: Almost a Lady (Mass Market Paperback)
When it comes to romances I tend to be really critical. Overall, I did not like this book. But I did enjoy it enough to finish (and only saying "whatever" a few times). I thought that both of the characters were rather immature. Yes it's a romance. But the constant rambling about how much Brandt lusted for Willow was a little overloaded. We have a murder to solve...but romping in the sack is much more important. And the murder...oh yeah...that was obvious...maybe I would've liked this book better if it had a little mystery to it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Pinkerton Women, June 27, 2004
This review is from: Almost a Lady (Mass Market Paperback)
This was a good book for a fast escape read. The mystery was well executed and the characters were realistic -- and the history of the Pinkerton Women a a good piece of historic "trivia" with which to base a novel. Personally, I think Willow gave in too soon and too often. With the mystery involved, the sex scenes actually detracted from the book. But I give it 4 stars for a fast escape read.
