A Father's Worst Nightmare,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Almost the Truth (Mass Market Paperback)
Again, Yorke is excellent in giving us a story of an average family, impacted by a horrible crime, and the fallout which is anything but what you would expect. A father is home with his teenaged daughter when a burglar breaks in and rapes her. The father is tied up, the burglar has a gun, so he begs his daughter not to resist. Still, she fights hard, despite his warnings. When it is done, she can never forgive him, and neither does the wife who was not home at the time, and the family breaks up. The father cannot forgive himself until he avenges the crime and gets his family back. But can a low-key, mild-mannered, accountant used to playing by the rules go outside the law and take care of business? The story is compelling: should he have died trying, or was it best to expect her to recover from the rape? Great suspense, compelling drama, and all wrapped up in a story barely more than 200 pages. I loved it!

Margaret Yorke shows us that every human heart has its grey area and finds the literary spark in even lacklustre personalities. She is truly a master of the cozy English mystery, but lets in the cold sensible air of modern life to an amazing degree. You'll find you don't want to put her little paperbacks down until she is finished with you.

Nasty crime,
By Beverly C. Sanders (USA, Baltimore, MD) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Almost the Truth (Paperback)
Rape is such an ugly topic to talk about but this author, Margaret Yorke did such a wonderful job of exposing some of the unfortunate side effects from such an injury. After I read the book Paradise Wild by Johanna Lindsey, I read this book. Each speaks about a character who is raped. Please read my review on Paradise Wild. This book treats rape the right way. |
