Book Description

At a freshman party she doesn't remember...Jess Jordan was almost raped.
...Almost. Very nearly. Not quite. Three years later, Jess has managed to make everyone believe she's better. Over it. Because she is....Almost. Very nearly. Not quite.

Unfortunately, until Jess proves she's back to normal activities, her parents won't discuss college. So, she lands a summer internship and strikes a deal with hockey jock, Gray Porter: He gets $8,000. She gets a fake boyfriend and a social life.

Jess has no idea Gray signed on for reasons other than money. She also never expects to fall in love. But Gray’s amazingly hot, holds her hand all the time, and makes her forget that he’s simply doing his job. It’s like having a real boyfriend
...Almost. Very nearly. Not quite.

Gray Porter is hiding secrets of his own. About Jess Jordan. About why he’s driven to protect her, why he won't cash her checks, or deny her anything she asks.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing book that I couldn't put down. February 7, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Almost is a beautiful book about healing, redemption, and love. It gave me butterflies, made me laugh, and made me cry. A total must read.

ALMOST is everything I look for in YA. Great characters, story, and of course the kind of love that gives me butterflies and has me yelling "kiss! kiss!" at the characters. I love how the author shows us how Jess's struggle with the past and how she grows and gets stronger throughout the book (the younger sister was great, too) So many teen girls have dealt with this or a similar situation and I admire the author for addressing it and then showing that there's healing and hope. And then there's the secrets Gray's been holding in and how he deals with it. Gray Porter is sweet and cute and a great guy. The love story is totally sigh-worthy. I could go on and on about all the amazingness of this book, but I'll just say read it, read it, READ IT!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic story! February 7, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Anne Eliot has created such a wonderful love story with Almost. I immediately connected with Jess and all she's been through and how desperately she is to be considered 'normal' again. So desperate that she hires Gray Porter as her boyfriend for the summer. Eliot is a master at creating tension between the characters but still letting the reader know that Jess and Gray are meant to be together. The story was sweet and heartbreaking at the same time as the two fell in love and overcame their fears to be together. It was the exact fulfilling ending that I love in a book and I can't wait to read more by this talented author.

Anne Eliot has created a moving YA Romance with all the tenderness and yearning that your heart can hold! Both Jess and Gray have experienced trauma and the way their stories intertwine is both heart wrenching and sweet. 3.0 out of 5 stars ...good but not great

4.0 out of 5 stars Well done, Anne Eliot.
I was doubtful that she would be able to pull off a love story where the main character is drugged, assaulted and nearly raped but she did it and she did it with finesse. Read more

More About the Author

I write young adult fiction full time. I love to hear from readers, and hope you find me on Facebook and Twitter.

When not listening to any and ALL love songs or pining for Tim Horton's to open in Colorado, I ponder Joseph Campbell. His work has inspired me to study story structure and how emotion within a story can move people through time--across language barriers and cultures. Emotion and love, I believe, are everything. First kisses, and romance are everything else. <3

I'm married to a saint, have a family that keeps me sane, the world's cutest dog and an Italian-Canadian mom plus an Irish-American dad. This means we travel tons, love food, hugs, and huge, noisy family gatherings.

I'm also a proud member of the Society of Children's Book Writers & Illustrators (SCBWI), Romance Writers of America (RWA), Pikes Peak Writers, and Digital Book World.
